We really dig what we do... 🚜

This home in Victor NY will soon be heated and cooled by a 5-ton WaterFurnace 7 Series variable speed geothermal heat pump. This system, along with the integrated desuperheater, will reduce the home's energy consumption for heating, cooling and hot water.

Q: What training is the team completing?
A: Our excavation crew is completing OSHA HAZWOPER 40 training to prepare for future Brownfield geothermal installations.

Q: What is a Brownfield?
A: Brownfields are properties with a past industrial or commercial use that may require environmental assessment or cleanup with redevelopment.

Q: Why are Brownfields a good fit for geothermal?
A: The Rochester area has a strong industrial history, leaving behind many Brownfield sites. Land that was once contaminated or overlooked can be transformed into a foundation for clean energy, using geothermal loopfields to provide efficient heating and cooling for buildings for decades to come.

Q: What does HAZWOPER 40 training cover?
A: This certification prepares our team to safely work on these specialized sites, including:
- Contaminated soil handling
- Safe excavation practices
- PPE and site controls
- Air monitoring and exposure awareness
- Emergency response procedures

Q: Has ACES worked on Brownfields before?
Yes! The Genesee Co-op Federal Credit Union on Gregory St In the city of Rochester had a geothermal system installed in 2023. A neighboring lot that was purchased to become both their geothermal loopfield and future expanded parking lot is a remediated brownfield.

The Villager Construction HQ tie-in starts today 👇

The tie-in is the process of connecting the underground geothermal loops to the building's indoor mechanical equipment. This creates a closed-loop system, allowing water to continuously circulate from the heat pump, through the underground piping where it exchanges heat with the earth, and back into the building.

To ensure a permanent, leak-free system, the HDPE piping is thermally fused together. This process joins the pipe into a single, continuous piece rather than relying on mechanical fittings.

This fourth of July, we’re proud to celebrate the USA’s 250th birthday and the spirit of independence that runs deep. Happy Independence Day to all!
