Stepping out from behind the desk and onto the cutting room floor! ✂️

Here is a behind-the-scenes look at the before-and-after of our patterning process, moving from the old, marked-up original vinyl to the brand new, freshly cut replacement pieces. I personally patterned and cut every single one of these pieces myself. Learning the hands-on fabrication side of this trade has been incredibly eye-opening, and I am loving the challenge of mastering the craft from the inside out.

BIG NEWS: Mr. Seamster is Expanding! 🪡🛥️

Business is booming, and as we gear up for the busy snowbird season, we are making two very important hires in our shop. We are looking for a highly connected Director of Business Development and a hungry, hands-on Shop Apprentice.

2. Income Goals: Since both of these roles offer massive growth potential, what is your ultimate desired annual income, and what does hitting that number mean to you?

3. Your "Why": Why do you want to work with Mr. Seamster Upholstery, and what specifically made you want to apply?

4. Your Strength: What is the absolute strongest attribute you would bring to our company?

5. The Audit (Be Honest!): We value a sharp eye. Take a look at our social media or online presence. What is one weakness you see, or one specific thing you think we are missing and could do better?

The devil is in the details! 🪡

A lot of you were wondering what I was rolling out on the workbench. Here is a quick behind-the-scenes look at how we fabricate our custom pull straps. To ensure they never pull out, they are secured directly to the underside of the cushions with screws and washers, and then stapled into the back end for an extra-secure fit.

Our buddy Stan stopped by the shop for some coffee and tunes, and he brought along a struggling cushion from his Bayliner.

When we opened it up to see what was going on, we couldn’t believe our eyes.

The previous upholsterer realized the plastic backing was cracked. Their solution? Stuff it with pieces of cardboard so they had something to staple the vinyl to. 🤯

This is exactly why who you hire matters. Cardboard inside a marine environment is a recipe for instant mold, rot, and structural failure. Putting “lipstick on a pig” with a cheap upholstery job will always cost you more in the long run.

At Mr. Seamster, we don’t use cardboard to cover up structural issues. If the core is cracked, Zach fixes the core. Luckily, he’s good at puzzles. 😆 We are repairing and reinforcing this plastic backing properly so the seat is actually structurally sound again—the right way.

Some gorgeous new interior pieces coming together for this pontoon build! 

We’ve got even more complicated details and custom components planned for this one, so stay tuned. Luckily, one of our dogs, Blue, stopped by the shop today to supervise and gave her official stamp of approval on Zach’s work so far. 

Wait until you see the finished results—this boat is about to be the absolute envy of everyone down at the springs!
