SCS Midwest, Inc. is an industrial, commercial, and residential flooring and coatings contractor specializing in the installation of resinous flooring systems, concrete sealing/polishing, terrazzo repair, and more. We have been an industry leader for over 40 years providing our services to the pharmaceutical, food & beverage, health care, aviation, manufacturing, education, and municipal markets across the Midwest. Work includes preparation of concrete surfaces with grinding and shot-blasting equipment and application of various fluid-applied and trowel down flooring/wall systems. Due to the continual growth in our industry, we are hiring team members to join our crews as general laborers.

Job Description: General Laborer – Including (but not limited to), sweeping, vacuuming, handling equipment and materials, material mixing, operating hand/power tools, material application, etc. On the job training will be provided.

Job Requirements:

1. Must have valid Iowa Driver License and be insurable
2. Applicant must be able to pass a drug screen upon request
3. Must have High School education or equal
4. Must be able to travel
5. Job will require kneeling
6. Job will require lifting of 50 lbs.
7. Job may require periodic overtime/weekend work

We offer a competitive starting wage of $18 - $20/hr. based on experience. We also offer the following:

• 1 week vacation after 90 days of employment
• $40/day per diem for overnight travel
• Transportation to and from jobsite from our shop

Took the whole crew to tackle this one. Not only was it a large space (17,000 SF), but upon starting our prep work we discovered that the top "cap" of the concrete slab was delaminating. We had to double shot-blast and follow up with our concrete polishers equipped with aggressive diamond tooling to remove the failing surface and reach a sound substrate. Sometimes things don't always go according to plan but our experienced crew came up with a solution and were able to deliver an end result that speaks for itself!

Knocked out another garage floor this weekend! We’re loving our new 110V Blastrac machine. This machine uses steel shot to profile the concrete allowing for the new coating system to mechanically bond to the substrate. Proper preparation is key to a long lasting floor, and as you can see it’s virtually dust free!

Found some time between the rains to knock out this pool surround. A decorative coating system is a great way to repair and dress up your concrete patio or pool deck. We utilize a polyaspartic system on these exterior projects that is chemical resistant, flexible, 100% UV stable, and offers a wide range of slip resistance.

We're kicking off our school work season a bit earlier than usual this year. We completed this project just this past week at Harding Middle School in Cedar Rapids. We removed the worn and failing carpet and installed a flexible urethane system know as ComfortFloor in their band and music rooms. This system was a great fit for these spaces as it reduces footfall sounds and noise transmission while also providing foot fatigue reduction and lasting aesthetics.

Our team recently installed 8,000 square feet and over 800 lineal feet of 6" integral cove base of a colored quartz epoxy system at the new University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Central Sterilization facility. This is the decontamination area, where surgical tools and other equipment are sterilized for the hospital. A seamless floor is critical in this type of environment, as it helps to reduce the risk of bacterial growth. The yellow stripes integrated into the floor differentiate the clean side from the dirty side.

We recently installed 10,000 square feet of a decorative epoxy flake system for the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City Railway (CRANDIC) as part of a major expansion and renovation of their headquarters. They utilized the system throughout the building in the restrooms, locker rooms, offices, corridors and training areas. We were able to keep the same look throughout, while customizing texture for individual spaces to meet their needs.
