My young plants are doing well. I thought 2 of my grapevines had not made it this spring that after I had planted them. I bought 2 more and planted those as well. To my surprise not only are all 4 alive, but one has tiny grapes already started this year.
I’ve planted 5 new blueberries this year as my main bush looked completely dead this spring. Again to my surprise my original main bush has life growing on a small portion of it. It will again take years to be producing again, but one of my new ones already has blueberries starting on it.
Out of 75 strawberry plants there are about 20 or so growing strong and the rest died. It’s strange that the ones in the worst soil are doing better than the ones planted in the good soil.
Planted two apple trees this year as well. I’ll be shocked if they survive the summer. I had to cut down all of my apple trees due to disease and no proper tree maintenance before I had moved to my place. Fire blight did its number on them plus the lack of proper pruning utterly ruined them.
Long story short the best way to expand your fruit capabilities is to completely believe that your green thumb is broken and to plant more. I’m happy with this year’s success with my fruit ambitions.
