DOC team members Elena Miller- Senior Manager Catalyst and Ashley Buchanan- Operational Excellence Specialist Lean recently attended Lean Construction Institute New England’s “The Origins and Future of Lean Construction” workshop at DPR Construction’s office.

The event featured Dr. Glenn Ballard, one of the founders of Lean Construction and co-founder of the Lean Construction Institute, who shared insights on the origins of Lean Construction, the development of the Last Planner System®, and the future of Lean practices within the industry.

Lean leaders also shared practical examples of how Lean principles and the Last Planner System are being applied on projects to strengthen planning, collaboration, coordination, and workflow.

Opportunities like this allow our team to continue by learning, exchange ideas with industry peers, and brings valuable practices back to our projects.

We’re proud to share that Amherst College’s Aliki Perroti & Seth Frank Lyceum has received an Honorable Mention in the SCUP/AIA-CAE 2026 Excellence in Architecture for Building Additions, Renovation or Adaptive Reuse.

DOC is honored to have served as Construction Manager and to have been part of the talented project team that brought this unique space to life.

The project blended the complete renovation of a historic mid-1800s building with a new 14,200-square-foot, three-story addition, creating a modern academic environment while preserving the character of the original structure. The project also incorporated cross-laminated timber construction, a 31-kW rooftop solar array, and other sustainable design elements supporting Amherst College’s commitment to carbon neutrality.

We’re proud to continue through projects that honor the past while building for the future.

Congratulations to Amherst College, Bruner/Cott, and the entire project team on this well-deserved recognition!

DOC is proud to support the recent 2026 Nick Tshonas Memorial Golf Tournament, while raising awareness through education to reduce the stigma associated with depression, mental illness, and addiction. ⛳

Representing DOC on the course at Topstone Golf Course in South Windsor, CT, were Rich Frend, Evan Paglia, Allison Hamill, and Kevin Burns. Laura Tracy and her family also joined in support of the tournament.

We’re grateful to be part of a meaningful event that honors Nick’s memory, supports families, and helps raise awareness in our community as we continue .

DOC was proud to step up to the plate this season as a team sponsor of the Spartans, a local baseball team competing in the Tri-County Baseball League of Western Massachusetts! ⚾

This partnership was especially meaningful because one of our own DOC employees, Jovanni Merced, served as both a player and coach, bringing the same leadership, teamwork, and dedication to the field that they demonstrate every day at DOC.

As the season comes to a close, we want to congratulate the entire team and thank everyone who helped make it a memorable one. Supporting local athletics and the people who strengthen our communities is another way we’re both on and off the field.

Great season, Spartans!

Happy National Intern Day!
Today, we’re celebrating our interns and the future leaders, builders, and innovators they are becoming.

At DOC, our interns are from day one. They become an important part of our teams, contribute to real project work, learn from experienced mentors, and develop valuable skills they can bring back to the classroom and carry into their careers.

We’re grateful for the energy, curiosity, and fresh perspectives they bring to DOC every day—and for the opportunity to learn more about each of them along the way.
Thank you to all our interns for everything you contribute. We’re excited to see what you build next!

A major milestone for The Clark: the design of the new A*o O. Tavitian Wing has been unveiled for the first time —once complete the new wing will expand access to an extraordinary collection, creating new ways for visitors to experience art at The Clark, and helping for the museum and its community.

DOC is set to break ground in early 2027 on the 15,000 SF, 12-room wing, which will connect two existing buildings and add 7,000 SF of gallery space for the A*o O. Tavitian collection. Showcasing more than 300 works from the late entrepreneur and philanthropist’s private collection, the wing will also include 3,000 SF of art storage and is expected to open in 2028.

At the recent unveiling/community forum, Esther Bell, Director of The Clark, Kathleen Morris Project Coordinator of the Tavitian Wing of The Clark, Annabelle Selldorf, Principal, and Lead Designer of Selldorf Architects, joined Jon Maass, Director of +MAASS and the project team to walk attendees through the vision for the wing, including the exterior and interior design concepts, project schedule, construction plans, next steps, and community questions.

Founded in 1879 by Daniel O'Connell, DOC has been built on a foundation of craftsmanship, integrity, and hard work for nearly a century and a half. On July 20, 1926, his six sons—William, Charles, John, Frank, George, and Daniel—officially incorporated the family business as Daniel O'Connell's Sons, marking an important milestone in our company's history.

From roads and bridges to factories across the region, DOC earned a reputation for quality that continues to define who we are today. These archival photos take us back to the 1920s, when skilled crews worked alongside horse-drawn equipment and steam-powered machinery, helping shape the legacy we proudly carry forward.

As we celebrate the 100th anniversary of incorporation, we also celebrate the generations of employees who have continued to build that legacy—honoring our past while looking toward the future.

Honoring our history.

Building A Better Way Forward.

We had a wonderful time celebrating this year’s Good Foundations Summer Event!
From networking and a night at Fenway Park to hands-on learning, a site visit, lift training, a technology demonstration, and a company-wide picnic, the event was filled with meaningful moments and great opportunities to connect. Most importantly, it brought Good Foundations team members together with executives, senior leaders, and mentors to build relationships, share experiences, and celebrate the continued growth of our program.

Happy Independence Day!

As we celebrate America’s 250th birthday, we’re grateful for the communities we serve and proud to play a role in helping build a stronger future together.

The flag featured below is the 38-star American flag, flown from 1877 to 1890—the same era in which DOC was founded. It serves as a meaningful reminder of our shared history, the progress we've made, and the opportunities that lie ahead.

We wish everyone a safe, enjoyable, and memorable Fourth of July.
