As part of the 35th anniversary of Jorge's journey in construction, we continue revisiting projects from our archive that have helped shape the studio’s architectural language over the years.
Originally completed during a period of exploration into contemporary residential design, the Scalabrin House was conceived around a simple idea: achieving architectural expression through form, proportion, and a restrained palette of materials.
Stone and plaster surfaces contrast with expansive glass openings and aluminum details, creating a composition of abstract white volumes. The project sought a more understated architectural presence, moving away from the conventional imagery often associated with suburban garden homes and toward a language defined by clarity, light, and spatial quality.
The relationship between interior and exterior became a central theme of the design. The house volumes frame and contain the garden, creating a sense of privacy while giving scale and character to the outdoor spaces. At the heart of the project, a generous veranda serves as a transition between living, dining, and landscape. Large glazed openings allow the interior to extend naturally outdoors, blurring the boundary between house and garden.
Private spaces are located on the upper level, where the layout clearly separates the parents’ area from the children’s bedrooms, balancing family life with privacy and independence.
The Scalabrin House reflects the studio’s ongoing interest in simplicity, material honesty, and the connection between architecture and its surroundings.
