Most homeowners have never heard of a Harley rake, but it's the step that decides whether your sod or seed actually grows.

A Harley rake is a rotating drum attachment that mounts on a skid steer. As it moves across bare ground, it breaks up compacted soil, pulls rocks and debris to the surface, and grades everything level, all in one pass.

Here's why that matters. Sod needs firm, even contact with soil to root. If the ground underneath is rough or compacted, you'll see dry patches and dead spots within weeks, even if the install looks fine at first. Seed has the same problem. It has to reach actual soil to germinate, not sit on top of crust or debris.

This kind of prep matters most for:

- New construction lots
- Freshly cleared areas
- Yards that have been rough or neglected for years

We run our Harley rake on a mini skid steer, so we can do this work in tight residential yards without tearing up the rest of your property to get in and out.
