They said it couldn’t be done, but I’m still here living my dream.

These are the top four tools I can’t live without 👇

Laser level — For setting cabinets, built-ins, shelving, paneling, jambs, and trim off one consistent level/plumb reference. It saves a ton of measuring and prevents small errors from stacking up.

4½” mini square — Probably one of the most used things. Quick sqaure checks, marking cuts, checking reveals, laying out trim, and checking cabinet parts without grabbing a full-size square.

Track saw — Breaking down sheet goods, trimming panels, scribing finished pieces, and making long straight cuts the other saws can’t reach

1/4” reveal/gauge block - Tiny tool for establishing consistent reveals on doors, windows, face frames, panels, and trim. It eliminates repeatedly measuring something that needs to be identical all day.

1️⃣ It’s okay to make dumb mistakes early — that’s how you learn what actually works.

2️⃣ Everything is fixable. It might cost you time and money, but there’s always a way to fix it.

3️⃣ Don’t be afraid to ask questions. The right mentors want to teach you.

4️⃣ Learn the “why,” not just the “how.” Understanding the reasoning behind a technique helps you solve problems you haven’t seen before.

5️⃣ Always think a few steps ahead. Knowing what tools you’ll need next keeps the work — and the whole day — running smoother.

Wish I knew these on day one. 👀”

Great craftsmanship is built on the details.

The extra measurements. The careful planning. The adjustments no one sees. They’re what make the finished product look effortless.

Because when it’s done right, it feels like it was always meant to be there.

Years of woodworking have taught me that the things people don’t see are usually the things that matter most.

A few lessons I’ve learned along the way:

• **The prep is the project.** Taking the time to flatten walls, make templates, and carefully lay everything out saves hours of fixing problems later.

• **Speed comes from consistency.** Rushing creates mistakes. Having a reliable system is what allows projects to move efficiently while maintaining quality.

• **Every house lies.** No wall is perfectly straight, no floor is perfectly level, and no corner is exactly 90°. Custom work is all about adapting to those imperfections.

• **Clients remember the details.** Tight reveals, clean miters, and leaving a spotless jobsite are often what people remember long after the project is finished.

• **You’re paid for your experience, not just your time.** Clients aren’t paying someone to cut wood—they’re investing in years of knowledge, problem-solving, and craftsmanship that make the finished product look like it was always meant to be there.

Every project teaches me something new, and that’s one of the things I love most about this trade.
