I saw and experienced some of the major challenges that many homeowners were faced with in their landscaping. The number one problem was plant choice that would thrive. To better understand the local climate

and soil I got Certified as a Master Gardener and started volunteering in community gardens to have a better understanding of plants in harsh conditions. In 2021 I started Time2Grow, garden coaching and consulting business. My main hope and purpose is, to make more people feel EMPOWERED to garden. Gardening is not about 100% perfection and then we can enjoy. Gardening is about the enjoyment and the journey of the experience of connecting with the outdoors.

Every time I have someone in my garden, whether it’s a client or a friend, one of the first questions they ask is, “What’s your favorite spot in your garden?”

Well, here it is. 💚

I call this little area the forest.

Growing up in Sweden, our school class would take trips to the forest. For a little while, I could get completely lost in a world of fairies and make-believe. There was just something magical about being surrounded by trees.

Years later, I never imagined that this small corner of my own garden would give me that same feeling.

It’s quiet and tucked away, surrounded by plants and trees. And when I walk down this little path, for a moment, I get that feeling again.

I thought I was creating a beautiful garden.

I didn’t realize I was creating my favorite place to be. 💚

Your support has meant more to me than you probably realize, and it’s a big part of why I knew I wasn’t ready to walk away from Time2Grow.

I’ve also realized how much I enjoy coaching, working alongside people on their gardens and getting to share in their successes along the way.

So yes, I’m taking 1:1 garden coaching clients again. 🌿

Does losing one plant mean it was a bad plant choice? Not necessarily. 🌿

I’ve planted around two dozen kinnickinnick in my garden, and I’ve lost three. Most are thriving, including one growing only about 10 feet from where another died.

When a plant struggles, I don’t immediately blame the plant. I look at the spot.

Drainage is one of the first things I consider. Soil structure can change within a surprisingly short distance, causing one area to hold more water than another. Watering can vary too, especially without drip irrigation.

Light can change as plants mature, and root competition, heat exposure, and even how well an individual plant established can all play a role.

So I’m not writing off kinnickinnick because I’ve lost a few when I have so many others thriving.

Moral of the story? Sometimes it’s not the plant…it’s the spot. 🌿

Oh, the golden hour, when I finally get to be in my garden. These last two weeks have been busy, and coming home to my garden has been the reset I need.

Late summer is when I really appreciate the workhorses in my perennial garden. Russian sage, penstemon, yarrow, echinacea, and agastache are still going strong, handling the heat, feeding the pollinators, and keeping the garden full of color as the season starts to shift.
