Tiny stain samples never really tell the full story, especially with wood.

That’s why we like making full-length sample boards for clients instead of handing them a little square from the store. Different lighting, wood grain, stain absorption, and even the polyurethane can completely change how a color actually looks once it’s finished.

We stain and finish full boards in our shop so clients can really see what they’re choosing before we start cutting and installing. Then if a color doesn’t get picked, we just use the backside later so the material still doesn’t go to waste.

Small detail, but it makes a big difference on finished projects.

85° outside and we’re still getting snow defenders ready.

That’s life in Northern Minnesota. Summer is the best time to work on roofs, but everything still has to be built for what’s coming in a few months. Around here, snow load and sliding ice are part of the plan from day one.

Pre-assembling parts in the shop now saves time out in the field later on these DNR projects.

Deep in the woods, all wrapped up in one day.

What started as a simple repair turned into a few extra adjustments along the way, but that’s pretty normal on older structures like this. Took the time to make everything fit and work the way it should before packing up.

Got the door sized correctly this time… and now something else is stopping it from closing.

That’s how repairs on older structures go sometimes — fix one issue and the next little problem finally shows itself. One step closer now.

Got the repairs wrapped up and went to hang the original door back on… turns out the repairs changed things just enough that the old door didn’t fit like it used to.

That’s pretty common on older structures — once everything is repaired and pulled back into place, a few extra adjustments are usually part of the process. Back off it comes for a little fine tuning.

Sometimes getting an old door back on is less “perfect system” and more balancing act.
A lot of repair work is patience, adjustments, and figuring things out one step at a time.

A couple screws, another coat of paint, and this repair is starting to come together.
The goal is always making it look clean, solid, and like it belonged there from the start.

Using the easiest trick again for this piece, using the old to template out the new piece.

One rotten piece can turn into reworking the whole section.

That’s why we check everything carefully instead of just covering problems up and hoping for the best.
