E.E. Reed – East Coast is happy to support our Superintendent, Jair Serrano, who recently volunteered his time to the Central American Ministry Outreach (CAMINO) building homes for families in Honduras. Jair has volunteered his time to this Outreach for several years and finds satisfaction in helping families with very limited resources and harsh living conditions. Through the work of the dedicated CAMINO volunteers, 73 families have safe and dry homes to live in; over 100 families are on the waitlist for a new home. E.E. Reed is proud of Jair’s work and the work of all who take time to give back to those less fortunate. #helpingothers #makeadifference #communityservice

Planet Direct Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

Congratulations to the project team at Planet Direct as they celebrated the brand-new headquarters at a ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier this week.
Representatives from Prince William County were in attendance and acknowledged Planet Direct’s continued success within the county and now at Innovation Park.
Planet Direct executives gave a special shout-out to our Project Superintendent, Ryan Ferguson, who welcomed his first child during the project. Congratulations!
Working together with our partners at MGMA, LJB, GHT and Rinker Design, our team delivered Planet Direct’s first build-to-suit facility and home to their 24-hour operations.
Enjoy the time-lapse of this build and a few moments captured during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

New AV feature display surrounds were added, and custom finished to match the 15 year old adjacent cherry wood feature wall. The successful completion of the project was built on open communication and teamwork to ensure that tenants were not inconveniences by the renovations.

#TBT 2016 when E.E. Reed – East Coast completed the 80,000 sf renovation of three levels at AOL’s Steve Case Center on their Sterling, Virginia campus. The goal of the project was to reorganize office layouts and create small group huddle spaces for employees to encourage more collaborative interaction. Design elements included custom graphic wallcoverings unique to each space, reclaimed wood feature walls, designer lighting and improved HVAC throughout. Included in the renovations were new electrical systems with new generators for the NOC center, completely upgraded telecommunications and a state-of-the-art audio-visual system. Additionally, improvements included new kitchen areas and lounge spaces to provide other unique gathering areas for employees.
The project was awarded both a 2016 NAIOP Award of Excellence for Best Interiors Project 50K S.F. & Above, and a 2017 IIDA Pinnacle Award. This high-end corporate office upgrade was a beautiful result of coordination, collaboration and attention to detail.

Throwback Thursday to the Award-Winning and LEED Silver Certified project, the Newington DVS Maintenance Facility. This project had a little bit of everything! The 25+ AC project was home to Fairfax County’s existing maintenance facility and bus depot. The construction was comprised of 3 phases: new facility construction, existing facility demolition and renovation of onsite parking areas and site access roads. The new construction consisted of a 90K+ SF maintenance facility complete with offices, driver lounge and locker rooms, service bays for county buses and first responder vehicles, a vehicle paint booth and bus wash.

New development

E.E. Reed – East Coast is excited about the development of this 36-acre site and construction of three (3) 2-story tilt-wall shell buildings totaling over 750K SF of new space. This is a challenging site underlain by diabase rock throughout. Because of this, development of this site required blasting throughout and an onsite crushing operation to process the blasted material for use as backfill and access roadways throughout construction. A combination of mortared stone gravity walls as well as segmental walls ranging from 3’ to 30’ in height and over 1,500 total LF are employed throughout the site to manage the grading requirements for this tight site package. Coordination has been imperative within our own construction team as well as with the construction teams working within the Right-Of-Way bordering our site. Projects requiring this level of collaboration and partnership are old hat for EE Reed and our subcontractor teams. Keep up the great work!

Helicopter Lift

What do you do when your client needs new mechanical units on twin 27-story apartment buildings with no crane access, and the project is located 3 miles from Reagan Airport? You work with the FAA and TSA, and bring in a helicopter. Excellent coordination by Dulles Plumbing and Heating and our EE Reed – East Coast team to pull off 4 picks in a limited two hour window. #TBT 2010 when E.E. Reed – East Coast completed construction of a 166,000 square foot office building for the Northern Regional office of VDOT and satellite station for Virginia State Police.
The project was a joint venture between VDOT, VSP and Fairfax County to repurpose the 21-acre site that was previously home to VDOT’s West Ox maintenance facility.
This project was the epitome of #teamwork as E.E. Reed – East Coast working alongside VDOT, VSP, Fairfax County and HGA Architects to provide the end users with a facility that consolidated VDOT’s northern operations and a new space for VSP. In the end, the facility provided tenants ultimate flexibility with reconfigurable office walls, 5 dividable multi-purpose conference rooms, numerous meeting rooms and collaboration spaces, and exterior seating areas.
The project achieved LEED Gold Certification and was awarded the 2010 Award of Excellence by Fairfax County’s Department of Public Works.

E.E. Reed – East Coast is proud to work with CIM Group and HGA on the modernization and re-opening of two new penthouse amenity spaces as well as one new roof terrace at Skyline Towers.

The North Tower amenity spaces will provide the tenants with a new fitness center, business center, and yoga studio, complete with high-end sound attenuating athletic floors, industrial style exposed ceilings, and wood slat hanging accent ceilings.

The South Tower will house a large clubroom with stone/marble finishes at the new central fireplace, an artistically inspired wood panel entrance wall, detailed coffered ceilings, large set tile flooring, and elegant perimeter window accent lighting. To further utilize the natural site lines provided by the tower’s elevation, construction at the building’s roof terrace will include new glass lit railing, a custom metal pergola, raised tile terrace paver flooring, and 3 new stainless steel grill stations complete with millwork enclosures.

Both towers, each 27 floors high, will take advantage of the natural light and high elevation views with large storefront entrances, perimeter windows, and high ceilings. The modernization will step down to the lobby and skybridges where custom metal, stone, and wood combined millwork will line the reception desk, flower boxes, benches, and walls. Brand new cloud ceilings and pendant light fixtures will hang from the 25’ high exposed ceilings. We look forward to bringing these 1970’s buildings into the 21st century.
