From the day we’re born our parents take our hands and from there we take our first steps. From every mile stone we achieve they help mold you into the adults they can be proud of. We quickly grow from not needing their hands to walk on our own. But it’s never far if needed. The endless questions we ask to gain knowledge from them. Our own life lessons learned along the way from experiences we bring on ourselves. To making them grandparents and seeing their faces light up in a whole different way. As they enjoy the new start of the grandkids unknown journey.
Fast forward. My dad has always been my go to for knowledge , wisdom and calm source of reason to issues that come to lite along my journey in life. In an unfortunate event on July 15th he fell broke his hip, fractured his arm and hit his head in the driveway. This as we know for someone who is 85 yrs old is not good. After days in the ICU then moved out of ICU. He was still alert to most of his surroundings but answer with only a nod or a one word answer. Looking back to being able to hold his hand through the days in the hospital reminded me of my younger self realizing how much I’ve learned from him. On Friday before I left from sitting with him I stood up and said dad one more time and he opened his eyes looked at me. I told him I loved him and that I’d see him in the morning. He nodded and said yup.
We never know when or where might be the last chance to say the important things to the ones we love.
