Whether you were gifted a tree this past week for Mother’s Day, or you are looking to plant one or more trees in your yard, here are 10 quick helpful hints that could save you time and frustration.

🌳 Make sure the tree is right for your climate and yard space.
🌳 Dig a hole 2-3x wider than the root ball, but not deeper.
🌳 Keep the top of the root ball level with the ground.
🌳 Loosen roots gently before placing the tree in the hole.
🌳 Backfill with native soil, then water thoroughly.
🌳 Add mulch around the base, but keep it away from the trunk. We like to create an area 3” - 5” away from the trunk so water can collect.
🌳 Water consistently during the first 6 months, especially in dry weather.
🌳 Avoid fertilizing or over-fertilizing newly planted trees. Allow the sun and water to do its work!
🌳 Stake only if necessary, then be sure to remove supports after the tree stabilizes.
🌳 Be patient and allow healthy roots to grow down and be established before expecting to see big top growth.

Out with the old and in with the new!

This weekend is a perfect time to get out and get gardening! Rake away old leaves and debris, cut away old or dead plants, flowers, grasses, and other vegetation. This will help give the proper “food” to the new growth that is coming in. And by food, of course, we mean adequate sun and a sprinkle or two of water.

As we drive around from job to job we continue to see more blooms!

This is always a great time of the year as trees begin to flower and show off their color. Have you been searching for a Spring flowering tree? Here are a list of a few species of trees you may want to consider putting in your yard.

Magnolia, Dogwood, Pear, Cherry, Eastern Redbud, Crabapple, Tulip tree and Mimosa tree to name a few.

There are also many flowering shrubs / bushes such as Forsythia, Azalea, Lilac, Viburnum, Rhododendrum, Camellia, and Spirea to name a few.
