To Our Valued Customers:
I wanted to take a quick minute to let everyone know that we are forecasted for a severe cold spell where the temps will fall below freezing for more than 5 consecutive days. The water district is advising that everyone protect their landscape backflow devices during the cold spell. This can be done by simply placing and old blanket or some old thick towels over the exposed backflow device. Star Nursery and Home Depot also sells insulated vinyl covers for the backflow devices, but I hear that their supplies are going fast. I have a supply of the protectors, If you would rather have us install it, let me know and I will install it and check the rest of the property for any additional exposed pipes that may freeze during this time. Backflow devices will freeze and become damaged during low temperatures and they are expensive to replace,
Additionally, the freezing temperatures will have a big impact on grass, trees, and shrubs. Deciduous trees will lose all of their leaves very quickly. Deciduous shrubs will turn brown and die above the rootball. Ice crystals will form in the grass and destroy all wet grass areas quickly. For this this reason, I recommend that everyone turn off their irrigation timers as soon as possible and leave them off until the freezing temperatures subside.
