Even the stairs have something to say here.

Solid white oak treads cantilevered off the wall, a full glass railing and a marble base at the landing. No visible supports holding it up, which is the whole point and the hardest part to build.

Four things a laundry room needs when it’s built right.

1. More than one set of machines. Two washers and two dryers, so the whole week gets done in one go.
2. A folding island. A dedicated surface for sorting and folding, not a spare corner of counter.
3. Floor-to-ceiling storage. Enough cabinetry to keep detergent, baskets and everything else out of sight.
4. Durable surfaces. Stone counters that take daily use and wipe clean, matched to the rest of the house.
