A great article that addresses how over sanitized playgrounds have become over the last 30+ years. There (thankfully) seems to be an about-face in attitudes within the design industry, while balancing with, and acknowledging the need for, a certain level of safety that doesn't limit a child's desire for risk-taking.

In New York's municipal playgrounds, parents, architects and city officials wage a seemingly ceaseless struggle to balance safety and creativity.
