KMD crews were called out at 11:00 p.m. to respond to an emergency water main break in theDearing Downs Subdivision. Our team worked continuously through 5:00 p.m. the following day to restore water service to the city.
The damaged line was a 10-inch water main that serves as the primary transmission line from the city’s water tower. Upon excavation, it was determined that the pipe had been resting directly on solid rock, causing it to split under pressure.
The repair was especially challenging due to the depth of the excavation and the presence of multiple existing utilities. The damaged water main was located beneath an active gas main and several existing water service lines, creating a complex and hazardous work environment. To ensure the safety of our employees while performing the repair, KMD crews installed trench shoring to properly support the excavation and comply with safe excavation practices.
Once the excavation was safely secured, KMD crews removed the damaged section of the 10-inch water main, installed a new section of pipe, completed all necessary connections, and thoroughly tested the repair before placing the line back into service.
Thanks to the dedication and hard work of our team, water service was successfully restored to the city after nearly 18 hours of continuous emergency response. KMD is proud to provide around-the-clock emergency utility services and respond whenever our communities need us most.
