Leon's Welding & Fabrication, LLC is a unique business since its products and services range from small household projects, to designing and fabricating trailers, flatbeds, wrought iron fences, to certified pipeline work which involves replacement and construction of gas and oil pipelines and a great number of other interesting jobs. Leon's has a very diverse clientèle base ranging from agricultur

e to construction and general contractor work, to the oil field and gas pipeline industry, and residential and commercial clients. Along with welding and fabricating, Leon's Welding & Fabrication, LLC also has an in-house sandblasting operation and a portable blast unit. Leon's has a variety of blast media available and can tailor the application according to the project. Leon's Welding & Fabrication, LLC offers powder coating. Leon's has a 10' x 16' batch oven and a 12' x 36' batch oven and offers a large assortment of colors, including fluorescents and candies. Powder Coating is a greener alternative to traditional painting and once baked provides a very durable coating to any metal. A New Addition to Leon's is a Metal Arts Division giving us the ability to precision cut steel, Aluminum and stainless sheets into anything you can dream up. With cutting capacity up to 1”, any fl**ge or gusset can be quickly produced for a perfect fit and with a wide selection of metal art, crafts, signs and décor, you’ll be sure to find the one of kind item you’re looking for.

The Life and Times of SLAG

Slag, dedicated and loyal employee of Leon’s Welding & Fabrication, passed peacefully on February 28, 2025, from complications due to feline diabetes.

Slag was born September 09, 2017, in rural Trego County, Kansas. Being the last survivor of his litter, Leon’s hired him on at the young age of 5 weeks in their grounds keeping department. Slag learned early how to navigate around a busy welding shop dodging sparks and equipment. Slag knew every nook and cranny of the shop and no unwanted critter got past him. Not only did Slag keep mice at bay, he also entertained himself with lizards, little bunnies and an occasional bird and thankfully only one snake.

Slag was loved not only by his co-workers of Leon’s Welding, but Hays and surrounding community members. Slag was always quick to greet a friendly voice at the front counter. He was also known as “the Inspector” since he was always front and center to any project brought into the shop.

Slag will be laid to rest peacefully at Leon and Melinda’s family farm. Memorials in Slag’s honor may be made to The Humane Society of the High Plains, PO Box 311, Hays, KS 67601.

Check out the new signage at Lewis Field Statium! We don't do vinyl, but the aluminum frame structure and catwalk between the score board and sign is just another cool structure designed by Leon in conjuction with Rick Rupp of Rupp Arts & Signs. A shout out to Joaquin Gutierrz for his amazing craftmanship with aluminum welding and Noland Vahle (also pictured).
