💦 Thinking of Installing a new Hot Tub? Here’s What’s Involved with the Electrical Work 🔌⚡
As licensed electricians, one of the more common upgrades we help with in the warmer months, is wiring a new hot tub or spa! If you're planning to soak stress away this season, here’s what you should know about the process:
✅ Site Evaluation
We start by checking the electrical service to make sure it is up to the task of the added load. Next we check the proposed location of the hot tub to ensure proper clearance and access for electrical connections, also following code requirements involving nearby receptacles/lighting and metal objects that may cause a potential shock hazard.
✅ Dedicated Circuit Installation
Hot tubs typically require a dedicated 240V 50A GFCI-protected circuit. This means your hot tub has its own breaker in the panel to safely handle the load, and GFCI protection at the safety disconnect. GFCI protection is extremely important, as it cuts power instantly if a ground fault is detected, This is essential when water is involved.
✅ Running the Conduit
With a typical install we run weather-resistant conduit outside with four copper wires from your electrical panel to a Hot Tub/Spa safety disconnect box. The disconnect box is to be located within sight but no closer than 5 feet from the hot tub water edge for safety.
✅ Final Connections & Code Compliance
We make all the necessary connections and test or work to ensure everything meets NEC code and local inspection requirements. Safety is priority #1.
👉 Pro Tip: Always hire a licensed electrician for hot tub wiring. Improper wiring can be dangerous and may void your warranty or insurance coverage.
💲 Price: We provide upfront pricing on our quotes so you can be assured the pricing won't magically change at the end of the job. Typical price range you can expect between $1500-$3000 for a new install. pricing can vary depending on multiple factors.
- Distance from the electrical panel to the proposed location is the main factor.
- Material type & required route, inwall/attic routed wiring, surface mounted conduit, or underground (If trenching is required or desired).
