Downes Tree service mourns the loss of our beloved team member, Victor Martinez. Victor has been with us for over twenty years, and has brought with him many talented Martinez family members along the way. He proudly served as a Tree Crew Foreman, often having a waitlist for customers that only wanted his finesse and care on their property. He had a special gift for understanding customers needs and would report back to the shop and say “I make it nice” or “customer veryyyy happy”. He was a man of many skills and talents, from climbing to cabling to pruning and removals, and he did it all with a smile.
But where he really shined was during the holiday season, heading our Christmas tree division with a meticulous eye and quite literally spreading Christmas joy. He has decorated hundreds, if not thousands, of Christmas trees over the years — the Ridgewood tree being the one he was most proud of. The Martinez family was always glowing in the crowd during the annual lighting ceremony and countdown.
Although Victor was a dedicated employee, nothing compared to the love he had for his family. He was a family man first, and leaves behind his beloved wife, four children and three grandchildren. His legacy at Downes Tree lives on in two of his wonderful kids, Alejandra and Victor Jr., his son-in-law, Juan, and nephew, Oscar, all of whom we are are so lucky to have on the team.
This past year, Victor faced this incredibly difficult and unfair fight with strength, bravery, grace, and his usual positive attitude until the very end.
We’ll miss you dearly Vic, and all wish we had more time with you. May you rest in peace our friend. ❤️🪽✝️
