Guys, please do not do this. Window units still need to be sized correctly for the home. A common thing that I saw this summer was when customers didn’t or couldn’t afford the repair cost, They would say well I’ll just go buy a window unit for less. Ultimately, we would wind up happening as they would spend more money on buying several window units then they would if they just repaired their central ac. Two things that would happen. First, you would have somebody that would buy window units that were way small. They would run nonstop and they would overload the breakers. It would get to the point where the person would leave to go to work and it’d be a decent temperature in the house and when they came home, it would be 90° because the multiple window units tripped all the breakers. On the other end, there would be another customer who would have oversized window units. This would cause major temperature swings and cool temperatures, but high humidity in the house. This ultimately invites mold. Both of these customers turned their thousand dollar repair left alone which then created thousands of dollars in damages to either the structure of the home or the electrical wiring of the home. Window units are awesome. They are a great investment. However, for a home that used to runoff of central AC they are not a permanent solution to the problem. Window units for newer homes really should only be used as an emergency or to supplement cooling. They should not be used as a temporary fix lasting more than six weeks. Keep in mind, though there are still homes out there that are designed for window units and that is OK. But a home that used to runoff of central AC it is not a great idea to use window units as your permanent solution. And above all, don’t be this guy if you are gonna use window units, talk to a professional and have them sized correctly. Hope this was helpful. Stay cool out there.😎
