Resetting the neck glue joint to get the neck angle back closer to where it was originally. This guitar only needed 1/32" of neck height. This technique works well if you inly need 1/16" or less. Anything greater than that will require a neck reset. I keep the heat lamps far enough away to not blister the paint. Heating the area 8 to 12 minutes, until the glue joint will move very slightly. With adequate down pressure on the headstock 5/32" in neck angle height, (allowing for spring-back) when it cools, I will have gained back the necessary 1/32 of neck height for a more comfortable string action.

Buying back about a fat 1/32 of neck angle on this old Martin 12 string. When I checked the angle with a straight edge initially, the straight edge was 3/32's below where it is now. Heating the glue joint while applying downward pressure to the headstock, then allowing it to cool will reset the glue joint back closer to where it was originally. If all you need is 1/16" or less, this method works. Anything greater than a 1/16" will require a neck reset. Keep the heat lamps far enough away so the paint does not blister and use foil to keep heat away from the rest of the guitar. I heat the whole neck joint area for 8 to 12 minutes until the glue joint gets soft enough to move very slightly without overheating the areas. It's not a process you can walk away from. Patience and constant monitoring will get you closer than you were before.
