Yesterday was the Summer Solstice - longest day of the year.

Today begins our summer harvest. It's only a couple of squash and a pickling cucumber but the season is here!

Nothing to see right now but a couple rows of carrots were sown under that tarp this weekend - first official 2026 in-ground tunnel crop started.

Many trays of plant starts are in the basement grow room waiting their turn.

Looking forward to a great season!

Pasture-Raised Chicken – Limited Supply Still Available + New: Frozen Homemade Chicken Broth! 🌿🐔

The holidays are behind us, and we're back to cozy, home-cooked meals—perfect timing for some truly nourishing pasture-raised chicken from your local farm!

These birds were raised outdoors on fresh pasture, moved to new grass twice a day for sunshine, bugs, and natural foraging. They get organic, non-GMO, soy-free feed plus plenty of garden scraps. Processed humanely and packaged right here on the farm in October.

Very limited supply left (we raised this batch mostly for ourselves, so once they're gone, that's it until our bigger 2026 season ramps up!).

Available now (pickup only — cash preferred):
Whole pasture-raised chickens | 4.5–5.7 lb average | $6.50/lb
Chicken feet (cleaned & peeled) | $5/lb
Chicken necks (great for broth) | $3 per 6-pack
NEW! Homemade Chicken Broth/Stock – Made in large batches from our own pasture-raised carcasses, slow-simmered for rich flavor, collagen, and nutrients. Frozen into convenient 2-cup cubes and vacuum-sealed. Perfect starter for soups, stews, rice, pasta, gravies, or sipping straight. Pure, no additives—just real farm goodness. | $5 per 2-cup cube

Pickup in the Hartwood area — DM Batey Fresh for exact address, availability, current inventory, and to reserve yours before they're all gone.

We're planning a much larger run for 2026 and will open pre-orders in the spring—if you're interested in getting first dibs next year, drop a note!

Thanks for supporting local, small-farm food. Nothing beats knowing exactly where your meal started. 🥣❤️

Pasture-Raised Chicken – Very Limited Supply (2026 pre-orders coming soon!)

These birds were raised the way chicken is supposed to be raised—out on fresh pasture, moved to new grass twice a day, every day. Sunshine, bugs, room to scratch and forage, plus unlimited organic, non-GMO, soy-free feed and garden scraps.

Processed and packaged by hand right here on the farm in October. Clean, humane, and local from start to finish.

Because we originally raised this batch for our own freezers, quantities are extremely limited. Once they’re gone… they’re gone until next season.

Available now (pickup only — cash only):
Whole pasture-raised chickens | 4.5–5.7 lb average | $6.50/lb
Chicken feet (cleaned & peeled) | $5/lb
Chicken necks (perfect for broth) | $3 per 6-pack

We are already planning a much larger run for 2026 and will be taking pre-orders in the spring. If you’d like first dibs next year, let me know!

Pickup in the Hartwood area — DM Batey Fresh for exact address, availability, and to reserve yours before they sell out.

Thanks for supporting a small family operation! 🐔🌿

In 2024 we did not do a great job preserving our tomatoes but this season we froze every tomato that we didn't eat fresh. We finally got all of the frozen tomatoes processed and we ended up with about 45 quarts of pasta sauce.

Next year's goal is to preserve more "whole" tomatoes for soups and chili.

We also dehydrate all of the skins and waste from the tomato mill then grind into tomato powder. This is great to punch up a recipe or you can add equal parts powder and water into a bowl and whisk into tomato paste.
