Pine trees just keep on giving…

Thirty years of growing things, and I still chuckle at the expensive ‘solutions’ they sell in garden centres. The most effective fix I know for saving a small fortune on raised beds, sorting out stubborn winter wood burners, and finally stopping a certain furry someone from digging up the indoor ferns... is currently lying scattered all over the pavement. Ordinary pine cones. I’ve been picking them up on my morning walks for over a decade. They sort out more everyday annoyances than you'd think. But a quick word to the wise: before you bring a single one through the front door, there is a very specific 30-minute chore you need to do involving your kitchen oven. Seriously, do not skip it, or you'll regret it rather quickly. If you want to put all those free woodland cast-offs to good use this weekend, I've noted down exactly what to do with them.

Mulch it instead!

I shared this shirt to IG a few days ago and the post has gone crazy viral with over 100,000 views and climbing. But it COULD be because I used a Nirvana song to go along with it. I dunno.

I once tried to run an ad for the shirt long ago but was told it went against community standards -- I'm assuming because our tech-bro overlords did not like some of the words, words which a certain administration has banned throughout government offices and which I made sure to use liberally in the forthcoming book.

I'm thinking about the fact how so often it feels like we're getting pummeled into submission -- and maybe the surveillance state will make that a reality -- but also if one silly little shirt (which won't change the world I know) garners so much interaction, what could something larger do? Look at the numbers. We have them. We're looking for a release and something to rally around. Even though we're surrounded by a repressive and wealth-extractive system of which lawn is just one tributary or symbol, we have such immense power.
