Have any of my wood working followers used this trick before? This slab was very stable so I was only halfway concerned about strength with these stitches.

I want to build a truly special table for someone. These white Oak slabs are 4ft x 7ft. This tree is older than the United States. The center ring of this slab is actually 1776 but the tree began life around 1746 and was cut down in 2022. It pretty cool to think about everything this tree would have lived through including:

The Revolutionary War
Abe Lincoln (and every other American president)
It's older than every state in America
This tree was already mature when Lewis and Clark headed west.
This tree was already old when we landed on the moon.

I think it would be really fun to put a brass pin in rings that hold significant historical value or maybe important years in your family history. Contact me if you want to discuss this special project.

A peek at the first thing wooden piece I ever built as a project in an FFA class my senior year of high school. It will also be the first thing ive built that I will cut up. It no longer serves its purpose and it's too big to hang around as a relic. Here are a couple thoughts that come to mind as I reflect on a 17 year old Ben working on this project:

1. I remember spending a lot of time planning for functionality. Even at that age I wanted things to be super usable. Hence the vertical cabinet.

2. I remember being super proud of it when I was finished. Building something with my hands felt really gratifying.

3. I am really glad that FFA, TSA and other club type classes exist. They truly do spark interest and activate parts of your mind that would go untouched. I hope hands on type learning exists forever. I am thankful for the teachers and shop space that serve students.

4. A random memory: I remember laying the backing plywood into the cabinet for the first time and it fit like a chef's kiss. My friend who was helping me looked and said "wow you must have measured twice"..... I've been chasing that feeling ever since. Lol
