Blood Drive in Memory of Al “Funzi” Frangipane Comes During National Blood Crisis

A Sullivan County family is honoring longtime volunteer Al “Funzi” Frangipane by asking the community to do something he did throughout his life: give blood.

The American Red Cross will hold the memorial blood drive Friday, August 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Garnet Health Medical Center Catskills in Harris.

The event comes during a severe national shortage. The Red Cross says donations have fallen to a four-year summer low while hospital demand remains high, and all blood types are needed.

Frangipane was a longtime donor and Red Cross disaster-response volunteer. His daughter Denise said he also supported the Lions Club and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and would have been calling people to encourage them to donate.
