I was walking through the primary bath of a home we are building and our client made a call I want to talk about. She had originally planned an arch for the doorway detail. She walked in, looked at it in the actual space, and said it was not it.

An arch pulls a room in a particular direction. Depending on the ceiling height, the tile, the trim profile, it can feel exactly right or completely out of place. This one was out of place.

We went with a corbel design instead, and it works. Same structural opening, but the detail now fits the mood of the house. That is the whole job: getting the details to feel like they were always supposed to be there.

At this stage the house looks close, and it is. But close and done are about four to five weeks apart on a home this size.

Appliances go in. Landscaping gets finished. Every wall patch from the trades gets touched up, primed, and painted. You hang the closet rods, set the hardware, walk every room with a punch list and work it down item by item. On a 5,000 square foot home that final stretch is its own phase.

Most people do not realize how much work lives in those last few weeks. The framing and mechanicals are the structure, but the punch out is what you actually see and feel when you move in.

We are back at Bell Tower, and I want to show you why this particular floor plan keeps coming up in conversations with people who are thinking about building.

It is a one story plan, and that word alone does a lot of work. No stairs means aging in place is built right in from day one, not retrofitted later. But it also just lives better for a lot of families right now, not only down the road. Everything on one level means the kitchen, the primary suite, the laundry, and the garage are all within about thirty feet of each other.

The ceiling detail you are looking at here is part of why it photographs the way it does. Tongue and groove, open to the roofline. It makes a one story feel anything but flat.

Champion’s Retreat is complete. The home, the landscaping, all of it wrapped up and handed over.

The final weeks of a build are their own kind of work. You are not framing or setting tile anymore. You are catching the small things, the ones a homeowner will notice every day. Getting those right is what the last push is for.

New landscaping takes time to fill in. Over the next few growing seasons the plants will get bigger, the grass will thicken, and the yard will look fuller and more finished. What you see today is the starting point, not the final result.

When I say this entire home was designed around natural light, I mean the window selection was part of the conversation from day one, not something picked after the fact.

The Pella package here gave us the sizes and configurations we needed to make it real. Huge windows and sliders that let light pour in rather than filter through.

The primary suite is the best example. Light comes into the bedroom and carries all the way through the primary bathroom without interruption. The whole sequence just fills up.

Choosing your window package early in the design process is one of those decisions that changes everything downstream.

Donnie started with looking at our lake house that was for sale. We knew he needed more square footage and a more open center to make it work for his family long term and the design grew from there.

We’ve been building houses since 2001. Projects like this one are why we still do it.

At Creekside Acres, every home is finished with hardwood floors from room to room. This one was laid in white oak, and we also love the warmth of new heart pine and the timeless character of red oak.
These homes are built as homesteads, meant to be lived in and loved for generations. Hardwood ages with grace in a way carpet never will, and each one comes with a screened porch for long Southern evenings, sweet tea in hand, without a mosquito in sight.

We took some heat for how we installed the siding on this house. Enough that we went to James Hardie’s team in Chicago to walk through exactly what we did.

Their answer: no issue. When the joints are caulked, primed, and painted correctly, water is not getting in. That sequence matters more than most people realize. Skip any one of those steps and you have a problem. Do all three and you have a siding system that holds.

There are a lot of right ways to do siding, and people in this industry will argue about every single one of them. We will always go back to the source when we have a question, and we are not going to second guess the manufacturer’s own team.

We had comments asking where the glass was. It’s here now, and the whole room reads completely different.

The cast iron freestanding tub is the centerpiece, with a fixture hung directly above it. His and her vanities run along the opposite wall, each with double sconces next to the mirrors. Black Delta fixtures throughout, tile backsplash in the shower, and the frameless glass enclosure that everyone was waiting on.

Cast iron is the detail worth knowing. It is heavier than a standard acrylic tub, which means the subfloor has to be planned for it from the beginning. But it holds heat better, it has a solidity to it that you feel the moment you step in, and it reads as furniture rather than just a fixture.

This one came together exactly the way it was supposed to.
