THE BARNDO WORKSHOP IS REACHING NEW HEIGHTS… LITERALLY. 😂

Remember that Barndo workshop we’ve been working on? Well… apparently 16-foot ceilings weren’t enough.

The latest request was:

“Think we can add a second floor?”

Shannon: Of course we can.

Me: You know people normally figure this stuff out BEFORE we build the building, right?

And just like that, the guys were back on ladders, LVLs were going up, and what started as a workshop is getting a whole new level.

The new loft gives our homeowners even more usable space while still keeping that big, open workshop area below, including plenty of clearance for that oversized roll-up door.

And THIS is exactly why we love custom construction. Plans evolve. Ideas grow. And sometimes… so does the building. 😎

✨ What Happens When an Artistic Homeowner With a Dream Meets Home2 Construction?

Eight years. ❤️

That’s how long this homeowner had been dreaming about this kitchen.

And when we say her dream kitchen, we mean HER dream kitchen. She didn’t walk into a showroom and pick out a pre-designed layout. She had spent years imagining it, planning it, and designing every. single. detail.

She knew she wanted the sink and stove flipped.
She envisioned a new window over the sink to bring in natural light.
She wanted cabinetry that made better use of the space.
And when it came to the backsplash? She didn't just want a little tile above the countertop. She envisioned that beautiful tile continuing around the sink, around the new window, and all the way to the ceiling. 😍

Because when you've waited eight years for your dream kitchen, the details matter.

Then she met Home2 Construction. 🔨❤️

Our job wasn't to redesign her vision or tell her what her dream kitchen should look like.

Our job was to listen to her ideas, figure out how to make them work, and bring the kitchen she had already created in her mind to life.

And boy, did she have a vision. 👏

The result is the perfect example of what can happen when a creative homeowner who knows exactly what she wants teams up with a contractor willing to listen, problem-solve and obsess over the little details right along with her.

She was the artist. 🎨
We just helped build the canvas. 🔨

And now, after eight years of dreaming, she finally gets to walk into her kitchen every morning.

We think that's pretty special. ❤️

When the GC has been left unsupervised…

Most people think owning a construction company is all about blueprints, estimates, permits, and making sure the job gets done right.

And then there’s Shannon. 😂

30 years of construction experience.
Licensed General Contractor.
Can build you a house.
Can replace your roof.
Can remodel your kitchen.

Still requires adult supervision. 🤦‍♀️😂

Today, Shannon is showcasing one of his favorite finds…

🥁 TINTABLE CAULK.

Apparently, it’s SO good that it deserved its own celebratory dance. 🕺🤣

We’re not entirely sure what these moves are called but thankfully, his construction skills are considerably better than his dancing. 😂

In all seriousness, THIS is Shannon. He genuinely loves what he does, gets ridiculously excited when he finds a product that gives our customers a better finished result, and has absolutely zero problem entertaining himself, or everyone else, on the jobsite.

When you hire Home2 Construction, you’re not getting some big, stuffy construction company. You’re getting a local family business, a GC who truly loves what he does…and apparently provides his own jobsite entertainment. 🤣

🔨 Apparently, Ground Level Was Too Boring for Shannon. 😂

Another update on our custom Hampstead workshop build, and things are moving right along!

The concrete has officially been poured, the lean-to is installed, and Shannon has once again confirmed that if there is a perfectly good ladder, scaffold, or piece of equipment available… he would still rather just stand on the rafters. 🤦‍♀️😂

Meanwhile, those of us who prefer our feet firmly planted on the ground will continue documenting Shannon’s questionable relationship with gravity. 😂

All jokes aside, this project is really starting to come together. The lean-to adds a ton of usable covered space for storage, equipment, or outdoor workspace, and the concrete gives the entire building a clean, functional foundation for what the owners have planned.

One of our favorite parts of a custom build like this is that it doesn't have to be a cookie-cutter building. How are you actually going to use the space? What do you need to store? Where do you need covered space? We build around the answers.

And yes… sometimes that apparently requires Shannon to inspect things from approximately 14 feet in the air. 😂

LOW ON SPACE? YOU MAY ALREADY HAVE IT.

One of the most common things we hear from homeowners is, “We just don’t have enough storage.”

But before you start thinking about adding square footage to your home, take another look at the space you already have.

For this recent project, we took an underused, awkward area and transformed it into a beautiful, functional walk-in pantry and laundry space packed with storage. Custom cabinetry gave these homeowners room for everyday necessities, bulk items, small appliances, cleaning supplies and all those things that never seem to have a home.

And the best part? Finding space inside your existing footprint can be a much more budget-friendly option than building an addition.

A PORCH REFRESH CAN CHANGE THE WHOLE HOUSE!

Another transformation completed in Cross Creek! This project is a great example of how you don’t always need to tear everything out and start over to make a BIG difference. This is a quick, budget friendly, alternative to a complete redo.

The front porch railings had definitely seen better days, and the back porch was ready for some love too. We refreshed both spaces with clean new finishes and railings and transformed the back porch into a screened-in outdoor living space the homeowners can actually enjoy.

Because here in North Carolina, an unscreened porch is basically just outdoor dining for mosquitoes… and YOU are the entrée. 😂🦟

Now they can sit outside, enjoy the breeze, drink their morning coffee or relax in the evening without spending half the time swatting, slapping and wondering “WHERE did that mosquito go?!”

And what a difference! 😍

The front of the home looks clean and welcoming again, while the backyard porch has become a comfortable extension of the home, without changing the footprint or doing a massive renovation.

Sometimes it isn't about building something brand new. Sometimes it's about looking at what you already have and figuring out how to make it better, prettier and more functional.
