🔥🏠:GAS FIREPLACES & DIRECT VENT SYSTEMS 🏠🔥
Today Inspector Zac is focusing on one of the most common systems we see in modern homes—gas fireplaces—and more specifically, how different venting systems work and what homeowners should know.
A big topic during inspections is understanding the difference between direct vent fireplaces, B-vent systems, and other gas-fired units, because ventilation plays a huge role in both safety and performance.
🔥 Direct Vent Fireplaces
These systems pull air from outside the home for combustion and exhaust gases directly back outside through a sealed system. They’re efficient, safer, and commonly found in newer builds.
🌬️ B-Vent Gas Fireplaces
These use indoor air for combustion and rely on a vertical vent to exhaust gases. They are more traditional but require proper draft and clear venting to operate safely.
⚠️ Why it matters: Improper installation, blocked vents, or damaged components can lead to poor performance or safety concerns like backdrafting or carbon monoxide risks.
Inspector Zac always reminds homeowners and buyers that while gas fireplaces are convenient and beautiful, understanding how they vent is key to keeping them operating safely and efficiently.
