Recently, Brian Varano and Michelle Miller graduated from the 6-month interdisciplinary leadership workshop that was presented in partnership with AIA Connecticut to help emerging leaders in their respective industries build relationships. We are proud and excited to see how Brian and Michelle will apply their experiences both in and outside of the office.

CFA Society Hartford, Connecticut Bar Association, Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants, Connecticut Young Insurance Professionals, and Hartford County Bar Association also partnered in this program.

It’s bittersweet that we announce the retirement of Joan Ireland! For more than 15 years, Joan has provided administrative support to SP+A. Over the years, she has worn many hats and has always been there behind the scenes, helping our staff deliver the high level of service we’re so proud of. Over the past few weeks, Joan has been sharing her knowledge and experience with Emma Hammond, who will be stepping into her very big shoes. Congratulations on your retirement, Joan! Thank you for your many years of dedication, support, and everything you’ve done for SP+A. You will certainly be missed!

Proud to assist Benesch on the Marian Urman Peace Garden on the UCONN campus. SP+A provided engineering design support for the 12,000 s.f. space located along Academic Way on the Storrs campus that creates a reflective space that promotes tolerance and open-mindedness. UCONN partnered with sculptor Peri Gutierrez to create the space.

A major milestone for the new Norfolk Fire Station! We were excited to attend the raising of the final truss — a symbolic moment as the project reaches the top of the rafters and the building begins to truly take shape. SP+A has been the architect and engineer of record on this project since 2022. Take a close look at how the new station has been carefully positioned to coexist with the existing firehouse, which will remain operational until the new facility is complete.

There’s still plenty of work ahead, but this is a moment worth celebrating. Congratulations to the entire project team for the skill, coordination, and teamwork that have brought us to this point. We’re looking forward to seeing the project continue to take shape and celebrating its completion in 2027.

Last night, principal David Stein, AIA, and interior designer Tiffany Tipton from SP+A’s New London office, joined dozens of community members and local leaders at the Garde Arts Center for the ribbon cutting of its new loading dock - a project nearly four years in the making.

As the Garde celebrates its 100th birthday this year, the new loading dock represents an important investment in the theater’s future and longevity. It opens new possibilities to attract artists, musicians, and theater groups by providing safe access to load equipment directly into the theater - opportunities that simply weren’t possible before.

Together with the newly completed New London Recreation Center and dozens of other local projects, we feel honored to be part of New London at such an exciting moment. We’re proud to contribute to a community that is investing in its cultural spaces, its people, and its future.

Here’s to the next 100 years of the Garde!
