Spring is always not to far off!

If you're in zones 3b-5, you can start these seeds indoors now! After starting these seeds indoors, you’ll need to wait until after the last frost to transplant them outside. Not sure when your last frost will be? We recommend consulting with your local nursery and neighbors. There are countless m...

I'm storage my carrots in sand for the winter.

In 2023, I left the carrots in the ground, which worked well. It snowed before hard frost, which protected the carrots.

In 2024, the frost damaged the carrot tops, so they didn't last as long. I did pull a few good ones for supper in March tho!

This year, I'm trying something different. These carrots will be kept in an insulated, un-heated building. I will cover them with damp sand.

I've been asked to convene a small group to gather feedback on the Seed Exchange — specifically pricing and barriers to listing and requesting seeds.

I’ll be hosting a listening meeting on February 8th for current and former SOD Seed Exchange listers and also members, and I’m also gathering early input to understand what’s working and what isn’t.

If you’ve ever listed seeds, considered listing but decided not to, or stepped back because the pricing didn’t reflect your costs, your perspective matters.

Details for the meeting will be shared shortly. In the meantime, I’ll be posting a few questions to help surface common themes.

If you are unable to attend, I welcome your messages so I can report your experience back to the Board.
