This is the reason I don't compost my kitchen scraps at the moment. Living in a semi-rural area, animals like raccoons and skunks share our spaces. While the skunks are not likely to hurt our cat, several neighbors have lost small pets to the local raccoons. I am looking into other options that won't attract these animals to my yard. They don't have any interest in the garden debris I compost, though.

(This video is from 2020. My first year in this garden.)

EVERYTHING IS A MOSAIC!! British farmer, ROBIN UPTON creates a different display in his fruit and vegetable stand every year, using 600+ squash and 100+ varieties. It is my understanding he has retired so this is an older photo.

When the product is sold, the money goes to benefit a different charity every year.

Parts of our homestead are picture-perfect, while other parts are just plain ugly.

That's normal.

There are lots of romantic farm life accounts these days, and there's nothing wrong with that.

But don't get so caught up in feeling like you must portray a specific image that you forget why you started. There's just as much value to be found in the messy middle, too. ❤️
