In New York, a voter may bring written instructions into the polling booth to help them remember how they want to vote.

A few key points:

• The instructions can be a personal “cheat sheet” .

• The voter must take the instructions out of the polling place with them — they cannot leave campaign materials behind.

• It cannot be shown to other voters inside the polling site, since that could be considered electioneering.

• Poll workers cannot take or review the instructions — they are solely for the voter’s private use.

So yes, if a voter wants to bring in a sheet reminding them “Write in Lindsey Smith for Town Supervisor, fill in the oval,” that is absolutely allowed as long as they take it with them when they leave..
