As we wrap up August, we are looking back on all the great events and hard work our team has put in.

From speaking with the Community about Pine Beetles and Fire Mitigation to Aerial Safety Training for the team, August was an eventful month.

Owner, Mike Earl presented a talk about Fire Mitigation with Eagle Valley Land Trust. The group was highly engaged and we had wonderful discussions about what you can do as a homeowner to harden your home.

Certified Arborist, Bret Pilkington led a walk and talk with Eagle Valley Land Trust on Pine Beetles, fungis and other pests. This was a great group on a beautiful day in Minturn.

The crews came together in Gypsum to learn Aerial Rescue. The safety of our crews is our top priority and we are so grateful to have access to this kind of training.

Mike walks a property to talk through practical ways homeowners can help harden their homes to wildfire.the group also was able to view some of the larger scale fire mitigation our forestry division completed on the opposing vistas.

Bret was able to give home owners the basics of how trees can divert nutrients during stressful periods.

Bret shows the group how beetles move through bark. The bark and gallery types help arborist identify which pest is attacking that tree.

Our crew watch as others practice rescuing team members from trees.

Healthy Trees Start in the Soil. 🌲

A comprehensive soil analysis helps our arborists understand exactly what your trees need by evaluating the environment around their roots.

Not all soil is created equal. When trees are planted, soil is often an afterthought, but poor soil can greatly impact your trees’ ability to get the nutrients they need. Many urban trees find themselves in dense, clay-based or rocky soil, or in poor soil left over from new construction that can impede water intake and more.

We work towards correcting deficiencies in your soil by adding what is missing.

🌲 Meet Your Arborist, Kali Vansteel 🌲

Kali has been with the Old Growth Tree Service team for 5 years, and in that time has made a positive impact on every part of the business. She started as an arborist and has led both our Eagle County and Roaring Fork branches as a Branch Manager.

“I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve gained over the last five years. I feel very fortunate to be surrounded by people who so willingly share their knowledge and expertise.” Kali says of her time with Old Growth Tree Service.

WE are most proud that Kali is an amazing mentor, leader, and general “get-it-done-er.” She comes to work every day with a smile and is always ready to make the hard stuff a little more fun with a joke and a laugh, while also encouraging our teams to be their very best, every day.

When Kali isn’t leading crews, working through logistics with our admin team, or taking time with clients to listen to their needs, you can find Kali on the trail; she loves to hike, bike, and run. She is a world traveler, last year visiting her 14th country. Is Kali the coolest? We’re just asking questions… We are humbled by the work ethic, vibrancy, and joy Kali brings to our team. Make sure you say hi to Kali when you see her around the Roaring Fork Valley.
