When a system is only a few years old but still has comfort problems, it’s usually not the age of the unit. It’s the **design**.

This system was installed less than 4 years ago, but the equipment was oversized and the ductwork was undersized. The result: noisy operation, poor airflow, and rooms that never felt right.

In this project I replaced both return ducts, upsizing them from 14" to 18", and added a MERV 16 filtration system so the unit can finally move the right amount of air and clean it at the same time. Same system, completely different performance once the airflow is fixed.

If your house feels **hot and sticky even with the AC running**, that’s not a temperature problem. That’s a **humidity** problem.

Your AC’s main job is to cool. It removes some moisture as a side effect, but it’s not a real dehumidifier. In North Alabama, when outdoor humidity is 70%+, that side effect is usually not enough.

3 signs you have a humidity problem, not just a temperature one:
1. It still feels hot or clammy at 72°
2. Musty smells that won’t go away
3. Condensation on supply vents or around grills

High indoor humidity doesn’t just feel bad. It feeds mold, warps wood, and aggravates allergies and asthma. Turning the thermostat down does **nothing** to fix that.

If your home checks any of those three boxes, the fix isn’t a lower setting on the thermostat, it’s addressing the **moisture**. Comment below with what you’re seeing and I’ll reply with some DIY options you can try.

Turning your thermostat down to **60° does NOT cool your house faster**.

Your AC cools at one speed. Whether you set it to 72° or 60°, the air coming out of the vents is the same temperature. Cranking it down to 60° just makes the system run longer chasing a number it may never reach.

Result: **higher power bills and more wear on your equipment** for the exact same comfort.

Set it to the temperature you actually want (72°, 74°, whatever feels good) and leave it there. You’ll get the same result without beating up your system.

When your outdoor condenser coil is dirty, it’s not just ugly, it’s expensive.

In this video I’m cleaning a packed condenser coil and showing the before/after. When coils get like this, it can:
1) Make the **compressor overheat**
2) **Cut your cooling power**, so the house never feels as cool
3) **Kill efficiency**, so your energy bills climb

A proper coil cleaning lets the system dump heat the way it was designed to, so it runs cooler, smoother, and uses less power.

When your indoor ev***rator coil looks like this, the dirt is a **symptom**, not the main problem.

In this video I’m cleaning a filthy indoor coil. When a coil gets this bad, it usually means:
• Weak or poor-quality filtration
• Leaky return ductwork pulling in attic / crawl space air
• Or both

Cleaning helps, but the real fix is **upgrading filtration and sealing the return ducts** so your system isn’t constantly breathing in dust and junk. That’s how you keep your coil, ducts, and indoor air much cleaner long term.

Crawl space encapsulated… but the ‘door’ is still leaking like crazy.

One of the most common misses I see after encapsulation is a **crawl space door that doesn’t seal**. You spend all that money putting down a v***r barrier and sealing the walls, but then leave a loose, leaky door that lets humid outside air, pests, and odors right back in.

Should you replace a capacitor that’s ‘out of spec’ but still running?

Here’s how I explain it to homeowners:

• **If you don’t replace it:** you save money today by not changing a part that’s still working.
• **If you leave it:** an out-of-value capacitor can put extra strain on the fan motor and compressor every time it starts.
• **If it fails completely:** the system may try to start over and over, which can cook the motor or compressor and turn a small part into a big repair.

I always walk through both sides so you can decide: save a little now, or reduce the risk of a much bigger bill later.
