The English Heritage of Southern Indiana

The story of Whispers of the Willow does not begin in Indiana.

It begins centuries ago in the village of Thornton-le-Dale in Yorkshire, England.

Generation after generation, the Skelton family journeyed west—to Virginia, North Carolina, the Ninety-Six District of South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, and finally the rolling hills of Southern Indiana.

Along the way, new branches of the family reached into Scotland, Wales, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Norway, and beyond. Yet the roots remained firmly planted in the English countryside that first shaped our family’s love of gardens, orchards, and the enduring beauty of the land.

Today, every garden we design is inspired by that journey—and planted with the hope that it will become part of yours.

Allow our Story Garden Designers to motivate your family in crafting an enduring legacy that flourishes across generations.
