Big weekend coming up. My plants will be on sale for 20% off. I will also have materials available for the Great Pollinator Census for anyone who wants to participate. Come earlier and help mow the grass and pull weeds and stand in front of the fan.

Wow. I just got an email from Prairie Nursery that includes the following:
"We ship plants for just five weeks in the fall. The first week of plant shipping, Sept.14–18, is nearly full already. If you need a September delivery, order soon! Our shipping schedule is filled on a first-come-first-served basis. You'll choose your delivery week at checkout from the weeks that are available."
If you have been to Asclepias and More, you know that I give you lots of information including one of Prairie Nursery"s old catalogs. It gives more information about native plants than any other place except the owner's book. I usually show you their preplanned gardens and gardens for specific sites so you can take advantage of their knowledge in planning your own, and I generally say you can order their kits only in the spring.
They have revised and updated these kits and added some for grasses. They can be planted in spring or fall. If you are not on their mailing list or have not checked out their website, you are missing good information. (Of course, you can order from them or purchase many of the plants from me.) My fig tree is full of delicious figs, but the people who said they wanted them have not come for them. Anyone willing to pick figs can have a bunch. Many are ripe, and some are still green. First come, first choice.

It is hot outside, so I work a few minutes and then rest many more. I have four new trays of plugs to pot and am working in the shade: Asclepias hirtella, A. exalta, Solomon's seal, and Monarda fistulosa. The goldenrod, asters, sunflowers, liatris, rudbeckia are blooming, so there is plenty of insect action and company outside. There are a few shady spots so you can cool off while you shop.

My new website is up and running and taking names as people sign up for my newsletter. I even have a couple ready, but my "advisor/son-in-law" knows a lot more about this than I do and tells me to hold off a few days while it authenticates and doesn't flag as blasts. Meanwhile, last week I got in Aquilegia canadensis and Phlox paniculata 'Jenna.' I also get Arisaema triphyllum, Symphyotrichum laeve, Symphyotrichum oblongifolium, and Aralia racemosa. Those are the botanical names, but in plain English it was columbine, phlox, Jack-in-the-pulpit, two asters, and spikenard. I am not familiar with the last one, but the blurb about a large shade plant with berries sounded good. It still needs to grow. I plan to do a newsletter on Jack because it is such an interesting, unusual plant. Open Friday and Saturday 9-5 and Tuesday- Thursday 2-5. Check out the new website for more info.

Wow! So much still to learn! I now have a website and will begin working on adding email capabilities this afternoon. I still am unsure of how to respond to messages on Facebook but stumble upon them once in a while. A customer told me this week that she had not heard from me in a while. As many of you know, my husband Larry did most of the newsletters and bookkeeping for my nursery. He died August 2025, and I am just now getting around to learning some of his skills. Numbers are not my thing, and I am not the writer he was; but if you stay posted and sign up on the website, you will eventually get a newsletter from me. I don't know if those who signed up when he was handling it will roll over as I will be using new mailing capabilities. Check out my website Asclepias and More.

Yes, it is too hot now to garden, but it is predicted to rain all next week. If you get plants into the ground this evening, you will have less watering to do to get them established. Come and get them from me.

I have finally gotten my new website up and running. I am still working on getting emails/contact list together. As many of you know, my husband Larry handled the newsletter, and you haven't received any after his death April, 2025. I am working on it. You can now sign up at the new site and be automatically added to the list if you want to receive newsletters or not.
I have gotten new plants in and have more ordered. Needing a groundcover? Try green and gold or marsh marigold or any of the several sedums and phlox I currently have.
I have ordered Baptisia australis but currently have the cream and yellow varieties, not the blue. I am trying a new plant: Aralia racemosa and have more Arisaema triphyllum on order. Come check it out. Open 9-5 Friday and Saturday and most Tuesday-Thursday 2-5.

I need to clear out a lot of things my husband and I collected over the years and took when relatives died or moved. Some are not in very good condition, but we had plans to reuse them in another way. Upstairs I have old horse collars and haims (?) that my father used to frame mirrors. There are old windows we were going to use to build a greenhouse; the frames may be damaged, but the glass is good. We have multiple old tools because Larry was always going to repair them or use parts to repair others. There is an "antique" night stand he had given to his mother to hold a ceramic wash bowl. I also have a couple of recliners that could be repaired and a wagon wheel table my father built with plexiglass and other old items with a "Lamp fixture" in the center of it. Larry and I both had multiple books and want to be rid of some of them==including three complete sets of encyclopedias. I taught English and had many books around. We tried to give some things to local libraries,, but they had no room or noone to take them.

We accumulated multiple boards and pieces of metal, some quite good but useless to me. Larry was a welder and brought pieces of equipment and left over materials home to make something, but he died April 2025 and left many projects undone. We hauled off one container of scrap metal etc but wonder if anyone out there would like to see what is here and take it. He also had old welding machines and equipment. I run a backyard nursery and have numerous plastic trays that plugs came in as well as some larger pots. I hate to throw things away, as you can tell from this collection.
Please come by Friday May 29, Saturday May 30 or Sunday May 31 to see if you want some of these items. And tell your friends. We do not know how to charge for them, but we would take donations if you have a good idea of value and would appreciate not having to load another dumpster.
