Before this renovation, Galileo Magnet High School students had to leave campus for gym class.

Now Galileo is located on the renovated John M. Langston campus, where students have a gymnasium, auditorium, track, modern classrooms, and hands-on STEM space in a building that has served Danville since 1957.

Blair completed the two-year renovation of the John M. Langston campus for Danville Public Schools. The project also moved the school division's central office out of rented space and into a district-owned facility.

One renovation addressed three needs: a complete campus for Galileo students, space for hands-on STEM education, and a renewed purpose for one of Danville's oldest schools.

For public owners with aging facilities and competing priorities, the question is not always whether to replace an older building. Sometimes it is how much more that building could do with the right plan.

Some of the buildings Blair has built aren't going to be featured in architecture magazines.

They're warehouses and municipal offices. Banks and community centers.

Service buildings and storage facilities that towns rely on without much fanfare.

Those buildings matter. They get used regularly by real people doing real work. They hold up, handle the load, and do what they're supposed to do.

Building something useful is its own kind of standard.

Blair's work happens in places where logistics look different from one site to the next: rural roads, town centers, campuses, industrial parks, and community facilities across Southern Virginia.

The projects vary in size and type. The expectations don't.

The same attention to scheduling, quality, and communication that goes into a large campus job applies to a smaller town center build in Pittsylvania County.

That's what it means to work in this region, not just operate in it.

A lot of commercial buildings look good on opening day. The question is how they hold up a decade later.

Loading dock doors that get used hard, multiple times a day. Flooring that handles foot traffic from hundreds of people. Back-of-house corridors that see carts, equipment, and deliveries around the clock.

The materials, hardware, and construction methods chosen during the build determine how much maintenance a building takes down the road.

Those choices matter long after opening day.

What you build today shouldn’t limit what you can build tomorrow.

Faith Memorial Baptist Church originally planned a gymnasium and classroom building together. After Blair budgeted the full scope, church leadership chose to move forward with the congregation’s top priority, the gym.

But building the gym first did not close the door on the classrooms. We positioned it so classroom space can be added along the south and east sides when the church is ready.

The completed 90-by-105-foot clear-span gym provides an open, column-free space for youth activities, church events, senior pickleball, and more. It includes a rubber athletic floor with game lines, folding basketball goals, a volleyball system, retractable bleachers for 300, 16 windows, LED high-bay lighting, and expanded parking.

When a project needs to happen in phases, the right time to plan for what comes next is before design begins.

When you're one of the largest American-owned medium transformer manufacturers in Virgina, demand on the power grid doesn't wait, and neither can your production floor.

We completed a 105,000-square-foot fab shop addition for Delta Star at their Lynchburg campus, purpose-built to expand their transformer tank fabrication operations.

The design-build project features steel fiber-reinforced concrete floors engineered for heavy loads, nine bridge cranes ranging from 10 to 30 tons, and dedicated equipment pits. It also houses new offices, locker rooms, and a large open breakroom for a growing workforce.

Built for serious lifting, from day one.

There's a moment in every structural steel project when people start slowing down as they drive past.

Before that moment, a lot has to happen. The site has to be graded. Foundations have to be in and cured. Steel has to be fabricated, delivered, and sequenced. A crane has to be set.

By the time the frame starts rising, it reflects weeks of work that never made it into a photo.

When the structure takes shape, it's a good day on the jobsite.

Concrete doesn't wait. Once a pour starts, the clock is running.

The mix has to be right, the weather has to cooperate, and every person on that crew has to be doing their part: finishing, leveling, placing, and working the concrete in the right sequence.

It's a lot of preparation for something that looks simple from a distance.

There's a reason experienced concrete crews are worth having. The work shows up in the slab for years.
