That thinning canopy in your backyard isn’t just a sign of a long winter: it could be a sign of the Emerald Ash Borer.
We’re seeing more Ash trees under attack across Anderson, and the damage happens faster than you might think. This pest effectively starves the tree from the inside out, turning a healthy shade tree into a serious fall hazard.
How do you spot it? Look for these two signs:
1. Canopy Dieback: The leaves at the very top of the tree start to look thin or disappear entirely.
2. D-Shaped Exit Holes: Look closely at the bark. If you see tiny holes shaped like a capital D, the borers have already moved in.
Once those D-shaped holes appear, the tree’s structural integrity is usually on the clock. If you’ve got an Ash tree near your house or driveway, catching this early is the only way to keep your property safe.
