Happy Thanksgiving!

I am so thankful for family. This year has highlighted the preciousness of gift that family truly is.

I am so thankful for community. The people who surround us have been incredible inside of the solar industry, and from all walks of life.

I am so thankful for each person that I have met in this career so far. I am being continuously challenged to grow and stretch into a fuller expression of the potential inside me. I have met wonderful people, and have even helped some through solar panels!

The sun is slowly setting on 2022. Christmas is only 41 days away!!!

One of the best ways to invest in yourself in 2022 is to consider if your home is qualified for solar.

Why, you ask?

The nation is headed for a very expensive winter with energy prices soaring nationwide, and fuel prices set to surge as diesel supplies dwindle to historic lows. This means heating oil will skyrocket in price, and people will turn to different options, like fireplaces, space heaters, and layering sweatshirts.

The rise in prices for fuel and heating oils will cause another adjustment in fees and rates from utility companies all over the USA, like many of us have seen since July of this year.

Watts Up Wednesday!

Today I had the privilege of visiting a local elementary school to participate in “Career Day.”

The school brings in different parents and adults who represent different careers or community heroes. This can help students relate to the wider world while tying what they learn to real life applications. I got to visit with students from almost all of the first grade classes of the school, which was a ton of fun. First graders would be an incredible energy source if we could harness it, haha!

No school visit would be complete without a fire drill. It was just as loud as I remembered!

After describing a normal day, the appointment process, and the way I get to help others, we opened the floor for questions.

My main take away:

Our future is bright! I believe that the greatest sign of intelligence is asking great questions, not just knowing answers. These students delivered! The children asked so many amazing questions about solar, the Sun, and just about anything else that popped into their minds. Although we didn’t get to the bottom of what happens if the world stop spinning, or what is the middle of the moon made of, we did talk about how solar panels work for families like their own.

We talked about what communication is, how it helps me help other people, and why learning in school is so important in so many jobs.

It was a real treat to get to meet them, and to invest time and effort in the school system.

I can’t wait for next year’s Career Day, and I hope I get invited to meet another group of wonderful students!

What is solar energy?

Solar energy is the most abundant energy resource on earth - 173,000 terawatts of solar energy strikes the Earth continuously. That's more than 10,000 times the world's total energy use*. 🤯

Solar energy is captured and generated when a silicon panel with multiple layers of atoms encounters high energy light particles (photons). This light-excitement results in the silicon structure releasing electrons from the negatively charged top layer around the panel on silver wires. Then the traveling electrons couple back up on the positively charged bottom layer of atoms. Whew. Back to neutral.

The circuit of electron movements is now complete. Then, more sunlight starts the process all over again.

This movement of electrons is what is called the electrical current.

During the trip around the circuit, the electrons were able to operate an inverter. This equipment changes the electricity from Direct Current to the Alternating Current that your home needs.

It brings Sun energy into your home. That energy can run your lights, toaster, and much, much more.

The complete negative to positive cycle is part of what makes solar panels so sustainable. That, and the abundance of solar energy slamming into Earth all the time.
