PHILLIPS FAMILY FARM EXHIBIT

Today, we thank the Phillips Family and all the generous donors who made this new exhibit a reality.

Cely Construction experienced a full-circle moment breaking ground on the new $3.6 million farm exhibit at the Greenville Zoo. Our founder, Charles Cely, served on the Zoo’s board for decades, was an active member of Clemson’s 4-H Agricultural Board, and proudly operated his own family farm (now 171 years old). Fittingly, thanks to the Phillips Family and other generous donors, some of his favorite animals, like his beloved barn owl and donkey, will be featured in this new exhibit. We are honored to be the contractor on such an important project.

Today, his son, Sam Cely, serves as President of Cely Construction, proudly continuing both the family farm and his father’s love for animals — as well as the company’s long-standing relationship with the Greenville Zoo.

Over 70 Years of Integrity

Cely Construction’s story begins in 1948 when five brothers returned home from serving on three continents during World War II. They founded the company on the principles of hard work, faith, discipline and respect – qualities which still set them apart today.

They got their start as Cely Brothers Lumber Co., a lumberyard that performed residential and commercial construction as an extended customer service. As a result, the name changed to Cely Construction and Supply Co. in the 1950s. As the company grew, general contracting took prominence, and the name became to Cely Construction Company.

Still a family-owned local company, now on its third generation. Cely is led by second-generation president Sam Cely. Together as a family, they take pride in their South Carolina heritage and look forward to building this community’s for years to come.
