🍂🌿 Bring on the color with Crotons! Their bold, tropical-looking foliage adds instant color and texture to patios, porches and containers.

A few tips from our horticulture experts to keep your Crotons looking their best:
☀️ Give them bright light: More light helps bring out their vibrant leaf colors.
💧 Keep soil evenly moist: Water when the top inch of soil feels dry, but avoid keeping the roots soggy.
🌡️ Protect from cold: Crotons love warmth, so bring containers indoors before temperatures drop.
✂️ Prune as needed: Pinch or trim leggy growth to encourage a fuller, bushier shape.

With the right light and a little care, Crotons can keep your garden colorful well into fall! 🍁

Some plants do more than just look good. 🌿 They bring beauty to the garden and flavor to the kitchen, making them true double-duty plants.

Here are four of our favorite picks:

💙 Blueberries: Sweet, antioxidant-rich berries to enjoy fresh, plus delicate white spring blooms and brilliant red fall foliage.

🌿 Bay Laurel: A handsome evergreen with year-round structure and aromatic leaves that add depth to soups, sauces and more.

🍋 Lemon Trees: Fragrant, zesty fruit for the kitchen paired with glossy green foliage that makes a beautiful statement indoors.

💚 Rosemary: Fragrant foliage for cooking and cocktails, plus evergreen texture that adds interest to borders, herb gardens and containers.

Why choose between beauty and usefulness when you can have both? 🌱 Which double-duty plant would you grow?

Summer may be winding down, but your garden doesn’t have to! 🌸 These summer-to-fall perennials are some of our favorites for keeping the landscape colorful, interesting, and full of pollinator activity as the seasons change.

🌼 Coreopsis brings cheerful, daisy-like blooms and thrives in sunny spots.
💗 Echinacea offers long-lasting flowers that attract bees and butterflies, with seed heads that add interest later in the season.
❤️ Gaillardia (Blanket Flower) loves the summer heat and keeps producing vibrant, warm-toned blooms with regular deadheading.
🌿 Sedum adds a different kind of interest with its succulent foliage and clusters of blooms that become especially beautiful as fall approaches.
💜 Asters finish the season with a beautiful burst of late-summer and fall color, making them an excellent choice for extending the bloom time in your garden.

Together, these perennials can help bridge the gap between summer and fall, giving your landscape plenty of color and texture as the seasons shift. 🍂✨

🐝 Meet the Specialist Bees in Your Garden

Not all bees are generalists! Oligolege bees, also known as specialist bees, rely on specific plants or plant families for the pollen they collect to feed their young. That means the right plants can make a big difference for these unique native pollinators.

🌺 Hibiscus Bee + Rose Mallow
The hibiscus bee is closely associated with native Hibiscus, including rose mallow. These beautiful blooms provide an important source of pollen for this specialized pollinator.

🌼 Long-Horned Bee + Tickseed
Many long-horned bees are specialists on plants in the daisy family, including tickseed (Coreopsis). Their long antennae make them especially easy to spot as they move from bloom to bloom.

💜 Mining Bee + Purple Coneflower
Some mining bee species specialize in plants within the daisy family, making purple coneflower an excellent addition to a pollinator-friendly garden. These solitary bees often nest underground, so leaving some bare soil can help provide nesting habitat, too.

🌿 Why plant for specialists?
Native plants support native bees in more ways than just providing nectar. They can provide the specific pollen, habitat, and resources that specialized bees need to complete their life cycles.

Plant a little more intentionally, and you may discover a whole world of tiny pollinators right in your garden. 🐝🌸
