You might check your attic and never think to look behind your shutters!

While finishing up a bat job in Clemmons, we noticed guano beneath a shutter on the side of the house. One loose screw had left a gap between the shutter and the brick, giving the bats a place to hide.

Sure enough, when he took a closer look, there they were!

Wildlife can find its way into some pretty unexpected spots. That’s why checking the small details around your home matters just as much as checking the attic and roofline.

Squirrels are pretty good at finding their way into places they don’t belong.

An opening like this might not look like much, but it can give a squirrel the access it needs to get inside your home.

If you notice a gap or damage around your roofline, vents, or other exterior areas, it’s worth having it checked before it turns into a bigger problem.

At Critter Gitter, we help identify wildlife access points and find ways to keep unwanted visitors out.

Sometimes, it starts with a small opening you might not even notice.

Looking back at this attic inspection, the homeowner thought they might have squirrels, but we discovered something else entirely: a large group of bats.

During the inspection, we counted more than two dozen bats and found signs of activity throughout the attic.

At the time, seasonal restrictions meant the removal work had to wait until August. It was a good reminder that wildlife issues aren't always what they seem, and the right solution starts with knowing exactly what's inside.

Hearing unusual noises in your attic? It’s worth having the space checked by a professional.

A small opening can be all it takes for wildlife to find its way inside.

Here’s a look at a recent repair, from what we found before to how we secured it afterward.

The goal isn’t just to cover the opening. It’s to make sure the area is properly secured and less likely to become an entry point again.

Sometimes the difference is in the details.

We were in Winston checking out a home after an HVAC technician reported signs of possum activity.

At first, the opening didn’t seem like much. But a closer look showed signs that wildlife had been using the area, along with another opening that led directly toward the basement and crawl space.

That’s why a proper inspection matters. Wildlife can find openings that are easy to overlook.

For this homeowner, we’re working within their budget. We’re securing the opening with wire mesh and setting traps in the basement in case any wildlife is still inside.

The goal is simple: address the problem, protect the home, and do the work properly without going beyond what the homeowner can afford.

Back in April, we inspected a home where the cable vents had previously been covered with hardware cloth.

The problem? The hardware cloth wasn’t properly secured, leaving openings that could allow wildlife to get through or work their way around it.

This is why the details matter when it comes to keeping wildlife out.

At Critter Gitter, we use laminated vent guard to help keep raccoons, birds, squirrels, and bats out while still allowing the vent to function properly.

It’s not just about covering an opening. It’s about making sure the protection is properly installed and built to do its job.

Sometimes it’s the little things you notice around your home.

An opening like this might not seem like much, but seeing activity around it is a good reason to take a closer look.

It could be something as simple as insects, or it could point to an area of the home that needs attention.

Small openings are easy to overlook, but they can become access points for unwanted wildlife.

If you notice something unusual around your home, don’t ignore it. It’s always better to catch potential problems early.

We have a pretty strong opinion about using foam as a quick fix for wildlife entry points.

It might look like the opening is sealed, but that doesn’t always mean the problem is actually solved. Wildlife can find weak spots, work around materials, and get back into the same areas.

The important part is finding the actual entry point and addressing it properly.

Sometimes the quick fix isn’t the fix at all.
