A Major Project. A Challenging Operation. And a Partnership Built Over Generations.
Miller Cable Company is proud to be part of one of the largest and most significant highway reconstruction projects underway in Northeast Ohio. ODOT Project 250425.
Kenmore Construction is serving as the General Contractor on this massive $328,542,079.59 project, which includes major improvements to I-90 eastbound and westbound through Cleveland’s Central Interchange area between East 9th Street and Carnegie Avenue, along with the replacement of the East 22nd Street and Carnegie Avenue bridges over I-90.
Miller Cable Company is proud to serve as a subcontractor to Kenmore Construction, performing the project’s extensive highway lighting, City of Cleveland lighting, and traffic signal work, with Jack King serving as Miller Cable Company’s Project Manager.
One of the things that makes this project especially meaningful to us is the team working alongside MCC.
US Utility Company is subcontracting to Miller Cable Company on portions of this work.
Miller Cable Company and US Utility are both partners and competitors in the same industry. While that may sound unusual, the relationship between our two companies goes back generations, long before many of the people working for either company today were around.
Through the years, our companies have built a relationship based on mutual respect, integrity, trust, friendship, and a shared commitment to doing the job right. We may compete against one another for work, but when we work together, the goal is simple: combine our experience, knowledge, and resources to put out the best possible product.
Yesterday was a perfect example of that partnership.
As part of the upcoming demolition and replacement of the East 22nd Street Bridge, existing Cleveland Public Power primary electrical circuits running through the bridge must remain operational. To accomplish that, the project requires a temporary primary runaround spanning I-90.
This is no ordinary installation.
Keeping these critical circuits operational while safely getting primary conductors across one of Cleveland’s busiest interstate corridors required extensive engineering, planning, coordination, strategy, and teamwork.
US Utility worked with Hendrix to utilize a specialized system that has been successfully used on projects in other states, allowing the conductors to be pulled across the interstate without the traditional approach of closing the lanes below.
Yesterday, that system was put to work during Phase 1 of the temporary runaround, and the operation was a great success.

These guys did one hell of a job.
An operation like this doesn't happen because of one person. It takes skilled tradesmen, leadership, careful planning, engineering, communication, and everyone working together with the same goal, getting the job done safely and getting it done right.
I also want to recognize Jack King, Miller Cable Company Project Manager, for his work and involvement in coordinating MCC’s responsibilities on this massive project. Projects of this size and complexity require constant communication and coordination between the general contractor, subcontractors, utilities, engineers, owners, and the people performing the work in the field.
Projects of this magnitude are a reminder that our industry is bigger than any one contractor.
We may compete for the same projects, but there are times when two great companies can come together, put competition aside, and combine decades of knowledge and experience to accomplish something everyone involved can be proud of.
Miller Cable Company and US Utility Company have shared that kind of relationship for generations. It is a relationship built on respect, integrity, a handshake, and friendship, and it is something we are proud to continue today.
