Pier Footings & Red Iron Steel Construction

For this commercial warehouse project, we’re utilizing reinforced concrete pier footings designed to support the structural columns of a red iron steel building.

🔩 Why Pier Footings?

✅ Efficient Construction – Allows the structural steel building to be erected without requiring the entire interior concrete slab to be poured first.

Why Not Pour the Entire Concrete Slab Immediately?

One major advantage of commercial steel construction is the ability to separate the structural foundation from the interior floor slab when the engineered design allows.

By installing the pier footings first, we can proceed with steel er****on while preserving flexibility for the warehouse’s final interior layout.

✔️ Future Tenant Customization – Accommodates specific plumbing, electrical, drainage, and equipment requirements.

✔️ Reduced Rework – Helps avoid cutting or removing newly installed concrete for future underground utilities.

🏗️ BUILDING A STRONG FOUNDATION | CMU STEM WALL CONSTRUCTION

At Wiggins Construction Company of North Florida, Inc., we believe a quality home starts with a solid foundation!

One important phase of construction is installing the CMU (Concrete Masonry Unit) stem wall, which provides a strong, stable base for the home.

Why use a CMU stem wall?

Major progress on our commercial warehouse project as the structural steel begins to take shape.

With concrete work underway and the steel columns and framing being erected, you can really start to see the size and layout of this building come together.

There’s still plenty of work ahead, but this is one of those stages where the transformation happens fast.
