FAQ Friday: How can you add personality to your kitchen while keeping it functional?

A kitchen remodel does not always have to mean blowing out walls or doing a full addition. A lot of the best upgrades come from making the space you already have work harder for your day-to-day life.

In many Northern Colorado kitchen remodels, the biggest wins come from practical changes like:
- Pantry upgrades (even a narrow pull-out can be a game changer)
- Wide drawers for pots and pans instead of deep lower cabinets
- A dedicated home for countertop appliances to reduce clutter
- Updated cabinet style and finishes that make the whole kitchen feel fresh

Good kitchens are not just about looks. They are about flow, storage, and how the family actually uses the space.

If you are planning a kitchen remodel in Greeley or anywhere in Northern Colorado, it is worth thinking through the small design changes that can make everyday life easier. Happy to walk you through it.

What frustrates you every day in your kitchen?

Most kitchen remodels don’t fail because of the cabinet color. They fail because the layout and storage never got fixed.

If you’re thinking about a kitchen remodel, spend a week paying attention to the little things that wear on you:

- Not enough counter space for real meal prep
- Appliances living on the countertop
- Pantry space that’s always overflowing
- Pots and pans with no good “home”
- Dishwasher or sink placement that blocks traffic
- Doors and drawers that collide
- Trash can that’s always in the way
- A kitchen that feels crowded with two people in it

When we plan a kitchen remodel, we start with function: clearances, work zones, storage, and how your family actually moves through the space. Finishes come after the kitchen works.

If you’re planning a kitchen remodel in Greeley, Windsor, or anywhere along the Northern Colorado Front Range, reach out anytime. Happy to walk you through what to watch for before you pick finishes.

Fire damage is never “just one room.”

Problem: After a fire, most homeowners see the obvious char or soot and assume the rest of the home is fine. But smoke and odor travel fast. Heat can compromise framing. Water from firefighting can soak drywall, flooring, and insulation.

Solution: Our job is to slow things down, document everything, and build a complete scope so nothing gets missed. That means air quality and odor control, selective demo where needed, drying, and then rebuilding with the right materials and trade sequencing.

Result: The goal is a home that’s truly safe, clean, and put back together the right way, not a quick patch that leaves problems behind.

And while fire is destructive, it can also be a turning point. With the right plan and the right team, restoration can be the start of something new.

If you’re walking through fire damage in Northern Colorado, we’re happy to help you understand the next steps and advocate for a complete repair.

We talk about candle safety. We talk about the stove.
Maybe we should talk about our batteries, too.

Lithium ion batteries are everywhere now. Phones, power tools, heated jackets, RC cars, rechargeable toys, vacuums, laptops, e bikes and scooters.

We have seen what can happen when one fails. In one recent fire, it was caught early and the fire department was on scene within about five minutes. The damage was still extensive.

This is not meant to scare anyone. We use rechargeable products every day, too. It is simply a fire risk more homeowners should understand.

A few habits worth remembering:
* Do not leave batteries charging overnight or unattended.
* Use the charger designed for that battery.
* Stop using batteries that are swollen, damaged, leaking, unusually hot, or acting different.
* Charge away from beds, couches, clothing piles, and other combustibles.
* Store removable batteries in a fire resistant case or container.
* Recycle batteries properly. Do not put them in household trash or curbside recycling.

As more and more things in our homes become rechargeable, battery safety deserves a spot on the list.

FAQ: If the fire was only in one room, why does the whole house need work?

The fire may start in one room, but the damage usually doesn't. Smoke travels through the home via HVAC systems and open spaces. Soot settles on surfaces throughout. Odor lingers in materials and contents. Water from firefighting efforts spreads to multiple areas. Heat affects nearby materials and structures. Personal contents like clothing, furniture, cabinets, and appliances may be damaged far beyond the fire's origin point.

We recently completed a fire reconstruction project where the fire started in a basement utility room, but the damage affected the entire home. The basement required major reconstruction and reframing. Smoke damage led to new drywall, repainting, new appliances, cabinets, bathrooms, kitchen work, and affected personal contents throughout.

A full professional assessment reveals the true scope. What looks like a localized fire often requires work in multiple areas—sometimes the entire home—to properly restore it.

If your home has experienced fire or smoke damage, understanding the full scope before rebuilding begins is critical.

IF THE FIRE WAS ONLY IN ONE ROOM, WHY DOES THE WHOLE HOUSE NEED WORK?

The fire may start in one room. The damage usually doesn't.

This is one of the most common questions homeowners ask after experiencing a fire. It's a fair question—but understanding how fire damage spreads is critical to proper reconstruction.

When a fire starts, it doesn't just burn one room. Smoke travels through the home via HVAC systems and open spaces. Soot settles on surfaces throughout. Odor can linger in materials, fabrics, and contents. Water from firefighting efforts spreads to multiple areas. Heat affects nearby materials and structures. And personal contents like clothing, furniture, cabinets, appliances, and personal items may be damaged far beyond the fire's origin point.

Fire reconstruction is about the full scope, not just the burned area. Understanding this from the start helps set realistic expectations and ensures your home is rebuilt properly.

A HOUSE FIRE CAN LEAVE HOMEOWNERS WONDERING WHAT TO DO NEXT.

After a fire, most people are overwhelmed and unsure where to begin. The first steps matter—and understanding the full scope of the damage is critical before rebuilding begins.

A fire may start in one part of the home, but the damage often affects much more than the burned area. Fire damage includes direct burn damage, smoke damage, soot damage, odor, water damage from firefighting efforts, and sometimes structural damage. A professional assessment helps identify all of it.

The steps are clear: make sure everyone is safe, contact your insurance company, document the damage, get a professional assessment, address mitigation and cleanup, and then rebuild the home properly.

If you ever find yourself dealing with fire damage, it's important to understand the full scope before rebuilding begins. We're here to help guide you through the restoration process and make sure your home is rebuilt the right way.
