Recently, we completed a basement stairway improvement project that included the installation of a new handrail and guardrail system. The handrail provides a secure grip for homeowners and visitors using the stairs, while the guardrail adds protection along the open side of the stairway.
This project combined skilled carpentry and ironwork to create a durable, attractive solution that enhances both safety and functionality. Whether a basement is finished or unfinished, properly installed stair railings help make access more comfortable and secure for everyone.

❄️ Brrr… the cold is here, but keeping your home warm and safe can be satisfying! Here’s how we’re getting ready for the cold temperatures:
1️⃣ Letting indoor faucets drip and opening cabinet doors to keep our pipes cozy. 2️⃣ Making sure everyone knows where the main water shut-off valve is—in case of emergency! 3️⃣ Double-checking outdoor faucet shut-off valves are off and outside hoses are disconnected. 4️⃣ Cranking up the thermostat to a toasty 70°F, day and night. 5️⃣ Inspecting attic vents, sealing up drafts, and checking insulation everywhere. 6️⃣ Installing freeze alarms, adding electric heat to chilly rooms, and making sure all our outside lights are working. 7️⃣ Keeping anything flammable far from heaters and boilers, and giving the equipment room floor a fresh coat of paint to spot leaks early. 8️⃣ And of course, checking doors and windows for sneaky drafts!
If you need a hand or want expert repairs, Ted Emmerich Construction has been keeping homes in Great Neck, Manhasset, and Port Washington safe for 52 years. Visit TedEmmerich.com. Stay warm, friends! 🏡✨

Consider an open floor plan for your home:
• Many of our homes have archways that add charm, but they often feel dated and/or confining based on today’s open layouts.
• Many older archways have cracks and sagging, meaning the structure needs attention.
• Widening an archway modernizes your home. Sightlines open. People move around easier. Your home feels bigger and brighter.
• Steel I-beams can be key to successful renovations. The steel beams we use are remarkably strong, compact, 4 to 5 inches deep.

Your style for modernizing these details in your home. Choices:
• Modern squared openings for a sleek, up-to-date, open appearance.
• Hidden beams for a seamless ceiling.
• Or a cased opening with trim can be used for a traditional look.

Renovating with steel, headers, and beams means you get the open appearance that today’s homeowner desires. Ready to transform your home? Call Ted to talk about your structural requirements and your renovation project. Ted Emmerich Construction makes renovation easy on the homeowner while delivering superior quality. 🏠🍂 Winter is around the corner! Is your home ready for the cold? We’re here to help you keep your home safe and comfortable. Attention should be given to:

• Heating and Insulation
• Preventing Pipes from Freezing

Here are some simple tips to help you prepare:
• Heating & Insulation: Service your heating system. Insulate hall closets and attics. Check that attic windows are closed and vents are clear. Fresh paint on boiler room floors helps you see leaks indicating equipment problems!
• Weatherproof Your Home: Add weather stripping to doors. Repair windowsills, window caulking, and basement windows to keep out chilly drafts.
• Prevent Frozen Pipes: Shut off water to outdoor faucets and disconnect hoses. On the coldest days, let indoor faucets drip and open cabinet doors to warm exposed pipes. Make sure everyone knows where the main water shut-off valve is, just in case!
• Add Electric Heat: Spot heat your coldest rooms with thermostatic electric baseboard heating.
• Stay Prepared: Install freeze alarms to get notified if temps drop too low inside your home.
• Extra Tip: Repair cracks in driveways and fix decks now to avoid ice damage later. Rebulb exterior lights: it’s much easier before the snow and ice arrives!
A little preparation now means less stress all winter long! ❄️ Call Ted Emmerich Construction to prepare your home for winter and when you need repairs. Visit Tedemmerich.com. Stay cozy out there!
