The Polson Middle School and High School buildings are just about ready to open their doors and welcome kids back to school next week! After a big construction push over the summer, the finishing touches are being put in place. We’re excited to see these spaces transition from construction sites into bustling hallways, classrooms, and gathering spaces filled with students and staff.

Back-to-school month is a great time to reflect on LPW's education projects that helped to build our community!

In the 1960s, we had the opportunity to create the plans for C.M. Russell High School in Great Falls. It's fascinating to look at these foam models and hand-drawn 3D perspectives that brought the vision for a new high school to life. These modeling and drawing techniques have not gotten much practice recently (unfortunately - or fortunately, depending on how you look at it!) with how much 3D modeling software has advanced.

Decades later, CMR continues to be an important part of our community, welcoming generations of students through its doors. We’re proud to have played a role in Great Falls history through this project, and even prouder to see the building continue to serve students and educators today and for generations to come.

Here’s to another great school year!

The new VA Clinic in Lewistown provides veterans in Central Montana with improved access to healthcare services in a modern, welcoming environment. This team was previously operating out of a 3,300 square foot space built in the 1950s. Their new building, about 6,100 square feet, has four exam rooms, including one designed specifically for women’s health. It also provides on-site lab services and telehealth for routine, specialty and mental health care.

This summer, we had the pleasure of having Mason Davis on staff as an architectural intern. Mason is entering his fourth year at Montana State University, studying Architecture.

Throughout the summer, Mason embraced every opportunity to learn and grow. Looking back on his experience, he shared, "Every day gave me an opportunity to learn beyond what is taught in school. I learned a lot architecturally, but the culture here showed me what strong collaboration looks like and the importance of surrounding yourself with people who care."

Mason is drawn to architecture because it blends creativity with rationality and gives him the opportunity to positively impact people's lives through design. As he heads into another year of school, he's looking forward to working with real clients and continuing to develop his ability to communicate design ideas in exciting and meaningful ways.

Mason was a tremendous help with 3D scanning buildings and drafting existing floor plans. We're grateful for his hard work, curiosity, and positive attitude throughout the summer.

Best wishes as you head into year #4 at MSU, Mason! Thank you for everything you did this summer, and we're excited to see where your future in architecture takes you!

At LPW, giving back to our community is an important part of who we are. For this quarter's Community Impact initiative, we're excited to support United Way of Cascade County's annual Stuff the Bus school supply drive!

Today, school buses are parked at Target, East Walmart, and West Walmart from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., collecting new school supplies to help students across Cascade County start the school year ready to learn.

Whether it's a backpack, notebooks, pencils, or hand sanitizer, every donation helps make a meaningful difference for local children and their families. If you're out shopping today, consider picking up an extra school supply or two and helping us invest in the future of our community!

An 850 square foot building addition and full exterior remodel was recently completed at The Eye Clinic of Great Falls. The addition allowed three new exam rooms, an office space, restroom, and small break room. The interior addition finishes were to match existing, but what do you think of the new exterior design!?

Projected for completion early next year, this space will provide year-round opportunities for recreation, fitness, wellness, and community connection. This facility will serve residents of all ages with amenities including a lap pool, recreation pool, fitness spaces, walking track, gymnasium, and gathering areas. We're excited to see this project continue taking shape and can't wait to watch it become a place that brings the community together.

Fun construction milestones not pictured include the start of paint, tile work, and the installation of the rec pool slide!

Happy Work Anniversary! Today we are celebrating Rachel for ten years at LPW. As a Senior Interior Designer, Rachel has designed the interiors on a wide range of projects across Montana and beyond, bringing creativity, functionality, and thoughtful design to each space she's worked on.

"One of my favorite things about interior design is that it’s constantly evolving. As the ways people work, learn, gather, and live continue to change, so does the opportunity to create spaces that are thoughtful, functional, and impactful.

My time at LPW has allowed me to work on a variety of projects - healthcare, schools, office spaces, churches, restaurants, and more. I’m extremely grateful for my colleagues and clients who have strengthened my skills and knowledge." - Rachel

Thank you, Rachel, for your dedication and expertise you’ve brought to our team over the past decade. We look forward to seeing the spaces you'll continue to create in the years ahead!

Broke Axe Throwing recently relocated to 613 Central Ave where we were able to help the owners with facade design and interior space planning. The interior space planning included tight code requirements and situating the bar as close as possible to the existing water services. In addition to choosing interior finishes and doing most of the building themselves, the owners also finished out their new space with furnishings and decor, and it looks fantastic!

This project also won NeighborWorks' 2026 Most Improved Building Award for Best Re-Adaptive Use of Space!

We are looking forward to our scheduled team bonding event here in September, where we will ~hopefully~ be splittin' wood and lookin' good!

For 250 years, America has been shaped by visionaries, builders, and communities investing in the future. Our office in downtown Great Falls is a small reflection of that ongoing story. Located at 15 5th Street South, the building originally served as a machine shop and Buick dealership during an era when the automobile was transforming how Americans connected with their cities, communities, and one another.

More than a century later, the building continues to serve a new purpose. Today, its historic walls house LPW Architecture, where we work to design schools, healthcare facilities, civic spaces, workplaces, and community buildings across Montana.

Architecture has always been a record of our nation's growth; preserving the stories of the past while adapting to meet the needs of future generations. The continued life of this building is a reminder that great design isn't just about creating something new; it's about recognizing the value of what already exists and thoughtfully carrying it forward.

As America celebrates 250 years, we're proud to work in a building that reflects the enduring power of adaptation, preservation, and community investment.

Happy 250th Birthday, America!
