This photo for features our crew at the Walnut Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion in Austin, Texas.

The overall project expands the plant's treatment capacity. Our scope centers on the headworks improvements, one of the first major rehabilitation components, covering upgraded screens, flow measurement, and odor control, plus the mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems that run them. All of it planned around Austin Water's daily operations so the plant never has to slow down.
They paused the work just long enough to hold still for a team photo.

This week's highlights the I-10 Turnpike Widening Project underway in Vinton, LA, where Southland is proud to support this major upgrade to one of Louisiana’s most traveled corridors. Spanning ten miles, the project adds a fourth lane in each direction and modernizes multiple interchanges from the Essen Lane exits to LA 415 in West Baton Rouge Parish.

As shown in the photo, our crew is doing a fantastic job pouring concrete to replace the existing roadway. This long-term investment strengthens safety, mobility, and connectivity across the region, and we’re honored to be part of its progress.

Full steam ahead on the St. Johns River!

With substructure work progressing seamlessly and superstructure work taking off, the Johnson Bros. Corporation - American Bridge Company JV team is keeping the momentum rolling on the new Shands Bridge. When complete, this massive 6.5-mile FDOT centerpiece for the SR 23 Beltway will feature: 73 total spans and a 65’ vertical clearance, future 6-lane expansion capability, a dedicated pedestrian Shared Use Path and Public fishing piers created from the repurposed ends of the old bridge

This week's comes from the Mill Creek Drainage Outfall Tunnel in Dallas, Texas, where some of our crew stopped for a group photo 150 feet underground.

The five-mile tunnel will provide 100-year flood protection for nearly 2,200 commercial and residential properties across east Dallas.

Progress continues near Ashburton Reservoir in Hanlon Park. We are upgrading critical water infrastructure to safeguard Baltimore’s drinking supply.

The project replaces open-air lakes with two massive 25 million gallon underground pre-stressed concrete tanks. Each tank spans an impressive 434 feet in diameter. Beyond the underground storage, work includes a state-of-the-art distribution building and heavy-duty vaults. We are also installing high-capacity pipelines measuring 48”, 66” and 84”. Finally, the project brings community enhancements to Lake Ashburton and Hanlon Park including a brand-new playground and gathering space.

We are proud to build cleaner water storage and better public spaces for the community.

This week’s hashtag highlights another major milestone at the Elm Fork Water Treatment Plant in Carrollton, Texas! Fresh off our progress on the Operations Wing deck, the site crew has officially moved on to the next phase: actively pouring a concrete deck over the pipe gallery.

Constructing this deck is a critical step forward for the project, laying the groundwork for the heavy infrastructure and piping networks that keep the facility running seamlessly.

Southland is proud to announce that Red River Biosolids Partners, a joint venture comprised of Oscar Renda Contracting of Canada, a Southland subsidiary, and Constructors, has been awarded an $815 million CAD contract by the City of Winnipeg for the North End Water Pollution Control Centre (NEWPCC) Sewage Treatment Plant Upgrade – Biosolids Facilities progressive design-build project in Manitoba.

These upgrades will help meet environmental regulations, protect waterways and expand treatment capacity while supporting employment and economic growth in the region. We are excited to be part of a project with such a lasting environmental impact and to help build the infrastructure that supports Winnipeg's continued growth. Building on our success with the plant’s Headworks Facilities project and our close collaboration during the development phase, we look forward to carrying this strong momentum forward during construction.
