In case you were wondering, walnut cabinetry is one of our love languages 😍

Check out some interior shots from our recent build in Colorado. We combined modern industrial concrete floors (with included hydronic radiant heating) with the warmth of stained walnut and subtle organic paint hues. The end result is a design that blends elements of Japandi, midcentury modern, and minimalist. Overall, the project was designed and built with budget, functionality, and durability in mind.

A couple of exterior shots from our Colorado build that wrapped up in June 📸

We used a combination of natural and black-stained Western Red Cedar for the siding and soffits. We love how the front porch turned out completed wrapped in cedar, with a Douglas Fir post and beam - see the third photo. An added bonus is that the cedar smells incredible!

We’re missing the mountains and the wide open spaces now that we’re back home in Ohio, but we had an amazing time building this one, and we’re excited to share more about some upcoming projects very soon!

There’s still work to do, but our Colorado project passed final building inspections today 🎉

With a blower door test score of 1.1 ACH50, all electric heating and cooling using mini-splits + in-floor hydronic radiant heat, and state of the art appliances/ERVs, we’re really proud of how this build has come together. It will be an efficient, comfortable home for many years to come. Now time to put on the finishing touches before we start our next project back home in Ohio 🏃🏻‍♂️🏃🏻‍♀️💨

Western red cedar shiplap is looking so nice on our Colorado build 🥹

If you look closely, you’ll see the horizontal girts running behind the siding (the black lines). These are corrugated so that if water ever gets behind the siding, it can drain freely out of the gap at the bottom and avoid causing any future damage to the home. Plus, the very bottom girt has a fine fabric screen that lets water out, but keeps bugs from getting in. Air can flow through too, which lets the wall dry out. Details like this will help this home stay beautiful and functional for many years to come.
